p90 and filtertron

Re: p90 and filtertron

Nope. TV Jones makes a Filtertron style (forget what it's called), that they make in P90 sizes. That is probably what you will have to go with.

Re: p90 and filtertron

ah was just wondering. I have a warmoth body with the tv jones route. more than likely ill go with the powertron plus. ala Gibbons.

Re: p90 and filtertron

yeah you'd have to re-route the body to accomodate a soapbar/p90 the tv jones route is going to be close to a humbucker route and won't be wide enough to accomodate a p90

that's ok though the tv jones pickups are pretty awesome he has a model for just about anytype of tone you are after the magna-tron gets a dearmondy vibe, the classic is a straightforward filter tron paf type, the powertron is kinda a cross between a gibson paf and filtertron paf, the supertron uses rail magnets instead of cylinders/screws

they also offer the TV-HT which is a great single coil

all those should fit your guitar

Re: p90 and filtertron

thanks. Ive always wanted a cabronita. I opted to sale the tele body I recently finished and pulled the trigger on the cabronita

Re: p90 and filtertron

P90 and Filter'Tron are near enough the same width but a soapbar cover is longer than a 'Tron - even one with the "ears" at either end.

wattage and I both installed 'Tron style pickups into PRS SE One guitars. He used a GFS whilst I used a TV Jones Classic. I found it necessary to remove wood to accommodate protruding screw ends on the underside of the pickup. A Gretsch style pickup surround would have helped to conceal the ends of the pickup cavity.

Re: p90 and filtertron

Thanks funkfingers. Im new to the filtertrons. I have a cabronita coming that is routed for the Tv jones and I must say Im excited.

Re: p90 and filtertron

TV jones does make filtertron sized P90's as well, if that's what you're going for. I figured you were replacing a P90 with a Filtertron. They make both. That's what's great about TV Jones. If Duncan was making P90 sized humbuckers, you'd be sure that I'd have a hell of a lot of LP Jr's.

Re: p90 and filtertron

ok, I went with the Gretsch HS Filtertron...anyone know the suggested pickup height from the string?

Re: p90 and filtertron

Filtertrons usually sound better really close to the strings. I just put it as high as it will go without the strings hitting it when I palm mute

Re: p90 and filtertron

I have found that the dang screws that come out the bottom of the pickup are too long. grhhhrrrrr

See post #6.

On the American production line LCT, for both positions, Fender sets the screw-to-string gap as 2/32nds of an inch treble side and 3/32nds bass side. (Fender installs a calibrated bridge and neck pair of TVJ Classic 'Tron replicas.)

Re: p90 and filtertron

yes, I was hoping in the end that wouldnt be an issue. but now im selling the gretsch pup and going with a tv jones filtertron or a Tv jones T90. havent decided yet.

Re: p90 and filtertron

The polepiece screws protrude from the underside of the TV Jones 'Trons too.

I do not know where present day Gretsch pickups are manufactured. I do not know how true to vintage TV Jones replica pickups sound. I do know, however, that they sound great and are a joy to use.
