P90 Phase issue; antiquity/others

I was wondering if anyone knew much about phase reversal in p90s.

I had Antiquity neck/bridge...put in to a 77special, and no prob.

Took the bridge out, since I wanted to try one of my other old p90s
(gibby) I think, and the center switch pos(middle), makes it sound nasaly
and thin. Hmm. It must be Gibb p90 vers SD p90? I wonder if
I get an old 70;s Seymour p90 out of my closet, if it will be wound opposite
and will not give me thin, since then it will be sd-p90 and sd-p90?/

any ideas.. I know if I flip neg/pos, it might work, but it might get noisy?

Thx any...

Re: P90 Phase issue; antiquity/others

take this all with a pinch of salt cause im basing this from something i think i read a while back

i think SD pup polarity is different from a lot of other pups in which case by wiring in the gibson in a normal manner would cause them to be out of phase. If this is the case then if you switch the black? and green? wires on ur duncan then you should be set

some1 will need to confirm these colors cause i forget

Re: P90 Phase issue; antiquity/others

Real simple solution -- flip both magnets in one of the pickups. Don't bother with wiring.

Curious; I did try the flip...or just rotate/turn it in the cavity so it is facing the other way...last night...no good...I only did the bridge , since if I did the
neck they would be back in polar opposite...am I getting it?

Re: P90 Phase issue; antiquity/others

The physical positioning of the pickup has nothing to do with the electrical phasing. Turning the pickup 180 degrees won't change anything.

You have to either reverse the flow of the current (switch ground lead and hot lead) or flip the magnets so that the opposite poles are touching the polepieces, e.g., if the magnets have their north poles touching the pole pieces or keeper bar, flip them so that the south poles are now touching the pole pieces/keeper bar. This turns a north polarity P90 into a south polarity P90 -- or vice versa.

Yea, I guess duh, I should have known about the 180 ... Thx...

I arrived at my quest, last night..I found an older SD p90,
and plopped it in. No prob. It is true what one user wrote,
Gibby p/u and Sd p/u are polar opposites. Sounds pretty
good with Antiquity Neck (Alnic2) and Bridge(Aln5)..
(Les paul special 77/55 reiss)

thx all
