Hi all,,, I know a P90 is a breed all it's own, & anything less or smaller is less, BUT is there anything out there that really comes close to that vibe, noisy or noise-free? I'm more concerned about the sound than the noise.

Thanks in advance & happy new year!!

Wasn’t that the goal of the Stra-Bro all those years ago?

I have several P-90 guitars and I feel (in my opinion) that the Quarter Pounder I have in my Telecaster is very P-90 like. I wouldn't hesitate to give a Strat Quarter Pounder a try.

*Noiseless: Kinman Big-Nine-0.

*Noisy: a bunch of SC's... examples:

Or even the ol' DiMarzio SDS1, to some extent: https://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/standard-strat/sds-1

Non limitative list. As long as the pickup has high DCR / inductance and steel poles + mags under the coil, it should do the job. :-)

the dimarzio sds1 with fillister screws is close but you cant buy one like that, you need to mod one.

the duncan stratbro90 is a great pup and does sound kinda p90 like but it was designed to do two things, give some vintage strat tones as well as some p90 tones. it does that well but both are a bit of a compromise. the rod magnets on the wound strings (the way mj intended them to be installed) and the tap give you some spanky stratty tones. the fillisters on the treble strings and the full output give some p90 girth.

if you wanted a straight p90 tone in a single coil size, have the custom shop make you a bro90 without the strat bit. six fillisters with two small bar magnets and the wind to get the output and tone you want. you could do a stacked version but it would probably be pretty tall

The SDS-1 with fillister screws sounds pretty similar. Quarter Pounder's don't sound anything like a P90. The QP is just a loud, full frequency single coil.
