PA Speaker/Crossover Question

I have been looking at PA speakers and other components, and while I see speakers with power handling ratings off the charts I rarely see HF drivers rated for more than about 100W. Do the crossovers also limit voltage to the horns?

Well, they limit the frequency range to the HF drivers. If you roll off the bass to a high-frequency driver, you can get away with sending more power to it at higher frequencies. Also, those drivers are more efficient at those higher frequencies, so they don't need the kind of power that woofers do in order to play loud.

Yes Lazarus, passive crossovers typically feature a "pad" to limit the amount of power sent to the horn.

This is one of many reasons why bi-amped systems using active crossovers feeding separate amplifiers to each type of speaker are superior.

where exactly are you looking at speakers at

over at Carvinaudio.com they have sound re-enforcement (PA) speakers rated at 300 W
horns and specs on each
