[Fiber-Optics]

My band needs a small PA for practices. Can you guys recommend something? We don't need anything big or anything with a ton of channels. I saw one in Musicians Friend Catalog by Kustom the KPA4 package. Is that a decent PA to start off with? We don't gig or anything yet, the package comes with 4 channell 80watt mixer with 2 cabs with 10" speakers and piezo tweeters, It is about $160.

my dad just finished setting up a pretty sweet PA system using an ART SLA-2, an inexpensive 16 band 2 channel eq, and a lexicon reverb. 200 watts, doesnt weigh that much at all. You can probably set one up for much cheaper with an SLA-1, and an inexpensive mixer w/ avatar speakers.

i really doubt if that's going to be loud enough to keep up with a full band's volume, even for rehearsals ... something that size is for the 'singer songwriter coffee house gig' kinda deal

i'd say wait until you can afford a few hundred watts per side into something with a 12" speaker and a tweeter ... used stuff on ebay or local 'for sale' ads is a good way to go

i'd say look into something at least 200 watts with 12'' speakers. anything less than that, you just won't be able to hear. i used to have a yamaha powered mixer that was 200 or 250 watts, and it worked great.

going used wouldn't be a bad idea either, theres lots of great used gear out there that you can get for a lot less cash.
