PAF & EMG marriage.

Just wondered ...

is it possible to have a pickup with all the PAF qualities
but with the mad volume the EMGs puts out ?

Re: PAF & EMG marriage.

sure. its called a paf with a clean boost pedal or preamp.

in essence there is no way to create a pup that will have the output of a high output active pup with the tone of a classic passive paf, and even if you could the very fact that the pup has all that extra output is going to change the way it sounds thru an amp

Re: PAF & EMG marriage.

I have a Ttop but it's not higher volume than my '59. It's hotter, darker sounding, but the same volume.

Speaking of it, I don't think my EMG 60 is any louder either.

Re: PAF & EMG marriage.

I run a flying V with an EMG 85 in the bridge, and at the same time, a split Dimarzio virtual vintage PAF neck. The two together smoke. I get all the umph and edge from the EMG, as well as the snap and chime of the PAF, and I run them in the miiddle position together. They are of course wired to their own pots (25k EMG and 500k PAF). It's a great sounding combo.

How does the wiring work on that? Do you just simply run hot from the EMG, and the PAF both separately to the output jack from the pots, or 3-way. I.E. keep the circuit separate until the jack?
