PAF Pro in a Les Paul?

Re: PAF Pro in a Les Paul?

No - but I have had a PAF Pro before. I'm thinking overall it would be a good thing. Maybe similar to a ramped down Custom Custom. Not as hot, not as mega-mid boost, and with the distinctive vowel/wah/awww sound the PAF PRo has. Probably a very experessive PAF style with good cut.

But I'm extrapolating/theorizing here....STill I really like the PAF Pro. Very cool pup IMO.

I should also say that this is a very thick sounding guitar. Even unplugged, it's very full sounding.

I have not played one in a LP but, from what I have played that pickup in and what a LP does in tone, it sounds like a great combo on paper. Especially with the thickness that axe has.

Re: PAF Pro in a Les Paul?

I had it in a strat and it sounds great. It has a sweet high end that should work just fine.

Re: PAF Pro in a Les Paul?

Lot's of speculation. Could Odie, Me, AND Idsnowdog all be wrong?

Maybe no one has ever done this. You could blaze a new trail in Les Paul tone!

Do it!!!

Re: PAF Pro in a Les Paul?

Wait a tick, I played one in the neck of a LP years ago, I dont remember much about it but IIRC, I didnt have any complaints.

Re: PAF Pro in a Les Paul?

neck shmeck - although I also think it would be a good match in the neck for a CC bridge!

Re: PAF Pro in a Les Paul?

I installed a PAF Pro into my Les Paul just now, played around with it for about 20 minutes.

So far not impressed at all, sounds like a single coil with a fuzz pedal on, really, REALLY grainy.
bassy but not thick, trebly but not snappy, I'll play around with the hex screws and height for a while, but it is NOT good so far

Have you tried it in other guitars?

I guess this is uncharted territory for the PAF pro. A lot of people use them in superstrats but not really into les pauls?

Re: PAF Pro in a Les Paul?

I have heard great things about them in Alder and similar

It could have something to do with the scale length...

I did improve it a bit with some hex-tweaking, but I still think I will send it in and exchange it for a Breed or a Fred or something

Re: PAF Pro in a Les Paul?

A Norton in the bridge of an LP would sound pretty sweet I think, good mid range hump with a tight focus and good harmonics.... smooth I imagine. Got a Norton in the bridge slot of my custom Ibanez and dig it quite a bit. I wonder how a Mo'Jo would sound in the neck?

Re: PAF Pro in a Les Paul?

Anybody use a PAF Pro in the bridge of a Les Paul?

i've heard it in the bridge and didn't really like it, but that could have had a lot to do with the player/amp/effects. it sounded generic to me but may well have been over-processed. i have one at home i pickerd up used to make hybrids, i should try it myself...
