painting a pickup?

I'd really like to paint my pickup cream since all my others are cream (also all the knobs.) Has anyone ever tried this? I'm not aware of a paint that works well on plastic.

Re: painting a pickup?

Krylon makes a plastic on plastic paint.

Cool, thanks. I've heard that other paints supposedly made for plastics chip pretty easisly. Has anyone actually used this stuff?

My other idea was to give the pickup to my smoker friend and have him blow smoke on it for a few weeks but I don't want to be w/o it for that long. :smokin:

creme bobbin toppers at Universal Jems. Or just buy creme pickups... And the Krylon Fusion paint works well. I've only painted plastic computer parts that aren't handled alot, so I can't help whether the finish will stand up to contant handling or will rub off.

Will these bobbin toppers work for a JB Jr?

And what are they exactly? The site doesn't really explain. Is it some kind of tape or what?

i painted my white pickup covers black...well i actually spray painted them, but the paints fading off around the corners and edges, i think it looks kinda cool though. gives it character. the paint i used was like some metallic finish or some stuff, i forget, but good luck anyway.

Painting pickup bobbins is Mickey Mouse. Buy the pickup in the color you want.

I agree, that I would do it right and buy the pickup in the color you want. Take pride in your guitar. You can sell the one you take out to re-coup some of the money. If you paint that thing, people will probably hum the theme to 'Sanford & Son' when you take the stage.

I bet a jillion dollars that not a single person in the audience notices, and of the possible 2 that notice, one's gonna lean over to the other and say, "Yeah, I wouldn't have paid custom shop prices for a double cream pickup, either."
