Painting copper shield tape

I’m doing a build where I might wood-mount the humbucker without a pick guard or pickup ring. I already had copper shielding in the cavity though and without the pickup ring the copper might show thru around the pickup. I’d like it to be flat black. Can I paint the shielding? If so, what kind of paint will stick? Will the paint effect the shielding property?
Thanks,
Scott

P.S. I Googled this and of course all I get is info on that expensive cavity shielding paint.

Keep in mind you will need to consider an approach to soldering to it- before or after painting it. I pretty much associated the 'painted' look with old Fender bodies that have been refinned where no one cared to mask things off or remove it. But I can see a contrasting flat black giving a 'finished' look at the same time.

Good to know I can paint over it. I should have mentioned the guitar finish is gloss black nitro.

Good point on the wire ground. I was planning to solder a wire to the bridge, drill thru to the bridge PU cavity and solder to the copper and send thru to the control cavity to ground. Then paint.

Regarding paint, anything that will stick to metal will do? Better yet, flat black primer?

Re: Painting copper shield tape

if your gonna paint anyway
just use the sheilding paint
why make it harder than you have to

Re: Painting copper shield tape

Because the shielding paint is so expensive! And if it is already copper shielded there is no need for shielding paint.

Just drill your holes and run your wires and solder them first, then paint with cheap flat black primer.

Re: Painting copper shield tape

The shielding should cover all sides to make a faraday cage. So what is the visible copper ? bottom or top of cavity ?

I bought online a small tube of black shielding paint (graphite based). It was not expensive.

Perfect. Just what I was hoping to do. Thanks!
