So I've been playing the JB/59' combo in my Schecter C-1 (mahogany body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard) for a while now and love it, but I want to have a little more tonal variation available to me, so I just bought a second guitar of the same exact model, and want to stick a couple different Seymour Duncans in the that one.
I know that the Sentient was sort of the one designed to pair with the Nazgul and Pegasus, but how would a Jazz fit with those two instead? I prefer the Jazz's sound over the Sentient, it's very glassy and bright for a neck pickup. Plus everything I've heard from the Sentient (to my ear anyway) sounds closer to the 59', and I prefer to get something that sounds less like what I already have. Would a Jazz hold up with either of those bridge pickups? The output is a little rolled back on the Jazz, no?
Some more context: I'm aiming for more modern and progressive metal tones out of this guitar, so I've got the bridge narrowed down to those two -- Haven't decided which yet. On paper I like the Pegasus more. But in practice, I think I might actually prefer the sound of the Nazgul more. -- Anyway, I want to use the neck pickup more for ambient and clean sections, lots of arpeggios and arpeggiated chords ringing out, with sparkling cleans and bell-like notes. I'm not really concerned with gained up rhythm and solo type stuff in the neck for this particular guitar. Also going to be dropping to somewhere around C Standard or so on this guitar, so I'm wondering how the Jazz holds up with that as well.
Any feedback is appreciated, thanks guys.
