I'm thinking about replacing my bridge pickup (Jackson J90 humbucker) with a JB (I have a Kahler tremolo- so TB-4 instead of SH-4?) and my neck pickup (J200 dual coil) with a YJM Fury. I will keep a J200 dual coil in the mid position. I will most likely spring $12 for the yjm 500k super-fast volume pot. The guitar (a Charvel model 6) has a poplar body with rock maple neck-through construction. I like the guitar, but I haven't played it in a long time. The jack is rusted (will be replaced) and all of the switches need new wiring and resoldering. I find the sound a bit dull and so want to really put some heat into it. I am also considering a '59 custom in the bridge (the 78 would be ideal, but it is way too expensive for me right now- maybe in another 15 years or so when I get tired of the sound). I play through a Fender Ultimate Chorus, if that helps. I'm not trying to make a backup guitar. I am trying to make one that can play neoclassical and 80s metal (I have been playing nylon-string classical for a while now, but I must say my favorite 80s guitar player is Vito Bratta, who really made the neoclassical style more than just a niche, shred-style of playing). Of course, I would like to get anything from an EVH sound to your average Warren DiMartini or George Lynch sound (I know, the screamin' demon is his pickup, maybe the lil' screamin' demon would work better than the yjm fury in the neck position). Anyway, I am just wondering if anyone has experience with this kind of setup or would have major reservations regarding this kind of setup.
