Gotta pot a couple of pickups, looking for some paraffin wax. Went down to home depot and the guy I asked gave me a blank stare and pointed me towards the earthquake wax.

Where do you guys buy yours?

Hobby / Craft shop.

I think I got like 5 bricks for $20.

Re: paraffin wax - where to buy?

This would probably be the same thing as you can get in grocery stores that sell stuff to can you own foods too right??

Re: paraffin wax - where to buy?

Small blocks of paraffin wax can be found at virtually every large supermarket in the USA, if you look in the aisle they sell empty glass canning jars.

Soft beeswax can be found in "wax donut" toilet fixture gaskets at the home improvement store. These are thick yellowy wax rings that seal the toilet bowl to the floor.

I have read here, that a beeswax/paraffin blend is best. The seach function is your friend here.:13:

Apparently its also kept in my local family garage. I guess I shoulda asked my dad first ;).

Well, I just built me a custom/59 hybrid with an A8, gotta get a cover for it and wax pot it, put it in my PRS. Should be a sweet mix :).

Grocery store as stated above in the canning/mason jar isle. 4 blocks for about 2 bucks. The bees wax I found at a hobby/craft chain store called Michael's. the mix is about 80% parafin and 20% beeswax. Although many have had success w/out using the bees wax. Here are some great links I've found:

It's recommended to buy a $5 candy thermometer (grocery store) to keep in the wax to watch the temp of the wax 140 - 150 degrees seems to be the standard.

Also at the end of this killer yotube video they show how they wax pot at the Gibson custom shop: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4764707652331081865

Please post back and let us know how it went. I've bought all the stuff but haven't attempted to do it yet. I got a crockpot from the thrift store for free, but most use the double boiler method.

GOOD LUCK!
