Parker Guitars (Parker FLY)

Re: Parker Guitars (Parker FLY)

I have the Parker Nightfly Mojo - mahogany body, bolt-on neck, so heavier than the fly and less rigid BUT it has the same fingerboard material, glued on frets, carbon fiber neck wrap and trem. It came stock with JB/Jazz combo and Fishman piezo. A VERY playable guitar. A few years back I took to it with a router and installed a Graphtech Ghost preamp and Hexpander, essentially giving it full Midi capability.

I have some mag swaps to do on the pickups (or complete swaps if they don't work - I'm leaning hard toward the 59/custom for the bridge, which I have in another bolt on and it screams).

I'm a big fan, but I have to say that I took it to practice once and our drummer said immediately, "don't ever bring that to a gig".

My bass player said the same thing. He also doesn't like my Teles. He calls me Springsteen when I play them.

Re: Parker Guitars (Parker FLY)

They must be related! I've had similar with my Tele as well, mainly because there are so many Americana/Country bands locally where a Tele is the main sound. Luckily, my stuff doesn't demand either guitar live, so it's all good!

Re: Parker Guitars (Parker FLY)

This might make you want to puke. The Midifly is listed as a "synth controller" in the Blue Book. Of course, synthersizers depreciate very fastly and very dramatically compared to guitars. The guitar listed as new at $3999 when I bought mine the Blue Book said the value was $800. One of the workers in the guitar chain I found it in knew it was marked wrong and was waiting for a buddy to pick it up (I was told later by another guy that worked in the store). I just happened to be there when they took it in and gave the seller $480, 60% of the list price. I knew something smelt bad and immediately bought the guitar for $800 with the case and all of the original case goodies. The plastic was still on the pickgaurd!

Oh man. Deals like that don't come around but once in a lifetime. You could easily get 3x that now.

Here's an interesting video on the Adrian Belew Signature Fly. I never played a Parker Fly before but I sure would like to demo one because of it's ergonomic design and sound.

Hearing Adrian play that thing live is something to behold. I think his newer one eliminates the Variax hardware- he uses a Boss GP-10 for pitch transposing and guitar modeling now. I wonder who is building his guitars now?

No, man I have a good eye for discrepancies. That was the same store I found my Ovation Deacon 12 string in around ten years ago. They had screwed up and priced it as a 6-string Breadwinner for $550. I bought it and was offered $2600 within 48 hours of owning the guitar, still have it.

Re: Parker Guitars (Parker FLY)

I played a Parker Fly Deluxe when they first came out- amazing guitar, and I'm sad they closed up since I want one. Very light and easy playing guitar
