Passive Pickup Suggestions needed

Re: Passive Pickup Suggestions needed

I think you will dig it. Look forward to your thoughts.

Re: Passive Pickup Suggestions needed

So i FINALLY got the TB-5 and 59 (neck) installed in my Jim Root Tele.
So far i am kind of indifferent to the tone i get using the Duncan Custom...
I was kind of hoping for more i guess.
The only other passive pickups i have are in my J5 tele (humbuckers) and to me i think they sound a fair bit more open than the Custom does in my Jim Root.
Initially, when i plugged the guitar in i didn't like the way it sounded. I lowered the pickup some and raised the strings a bit more to my liking. To my ears the Custom has a very tight bass in my tele. For some reason i feel like it is difficult to dial a tone i am content with. Like i said, my J5 is the only other passive pickup guitar i own, but i feel like it is so much easier to get a tone right away with that guitar.

I will try to post a mix with the best tone i can get using the TB-5 in my Jim Root tele soon.

Re: Passive Pickup Suggestions needed

Do you guys think the SH-5 would be a better more versatile fit for my Jim Root tele?

IMO the SH-5 is 100% the most versatile pickup mentioned in this thread, regardless of guitar, that being said it will probably be a bigger departure from EMGs than the Dominion would. That being said it probably would not be quite as focused as other, heavier pickups.

Really digging the Custom now!
It has taken a bit for my ears to get used to the pickup, but i do LOVE the way it sounds! I made a super quick recording of a riff i wrote using my Jim Root tele w/Duncan Custom/59 and then did another using my John 5 tele that has a stock bridge pickup in it. Here are the two clips. I used a Mesa Mark IV amp model in my Fractal AX8 for the tone and an ML Soundlab Misha Mix 08 IR for the cab. Again this was super quick to record this so it may be a bit sloppy as far as my playing goes. I didn't get to edit anything either.

Would love to hear which you like the tone of better or if i could improve on something?
