Both are said to be based on the old PAF but hotter and more punchy. so you in no way would look at the PATB3 blues as a kinder gentler sh5?

Re: PATB-3 vs Duncan custom your opinion on the two?

yeah... the custom has about as much in common with a paf as a jb.

no, the patb-3 is not like a kinder gentler sh5. it actually has some paf-ish qualities but has alot of its own thing as well.

Yes but i am not the one who said the custom was a " PAF on steroids" or "hard driving kicking PAF tone" as the pup was advertised?
same for the blues patb3 " old paf les paul type tone for trem guitars" or " paf type sound with more output, harmonics and sustain, made in the CS for blues saracenos sometimes over the top playing and style"
these are the things that make many make the PAF connection with these said models:)

you are using your eyes, im using my ears.

I currently have both of these pups in guitars. The SH5 in a PRS SE single cut and the PATB-3 in a Samick Sarceno.
To my ears, the SH5 is not really a PAF type tone, but still a good hot humbucker.
the PATB-3 (to my ears) DOES impart some Les Paul flavor to a 25.5" scale bolt on guitar with a vintage style trem.
I like them both, but they are not that similar to my ears.
If I had a 25.5" scale trem guitar, I would go with the PATB-3.
The 25" scale PRS SE (with the american 5-way switch) does like the SH5, especially with some gain.
It all depends on what you want to do.
