Pearly Gates combo for Hard Rock?

Re: Pearly Gates combo for Hard Rock?

Enough talk - buy the *&%^^ PG's!!!!!!!! I could wrap a refrigerator magnet up in an old lamp cord and get a heavy sound out of the recto setting on my amp! But it wouldn't have the soul & tone of those PG's!!!!!!!!!!!

There are tone reasons to get a Super D, DD EMG etc...But unless you MUST push an old JCM1987 over the edge - don't worry about it!!!!!

I hope to God that a certain person who's name begins with 'w' doesn't find this post. The questions will come 'a flyin'. :chairfall I'm just amused at the visual of a lamp cord wrapped around a refrigerator magnet and stuffed in a pickguard.

Re: Pearly Gates combo for Hard Rock?

I don´t Know how a pearly gates pickup sound BUT....
i want to know how´s the jazz neck compare to a pearly gates neck.. since i´m using a jazz neck right now.
Q:p
I ****ING LOVE THE CC IN the bridge. best duncan pup i tried.

Re: Pearly Gates combo for Hard Rock?

I can say that the Jazz neck have a SINGING lead tone and and overal Middle/treble TIGHT sound. that was unexpected .

Also, it has a tubular Sound when clean. i liked it, but i still need to tweak more with the Jazz Bass so i can see if i will like it or not.
and what to get next, if i dislike it.
Q:p
can you compare the jazz neck and the pearly gates neck for me?
Output, bass, treble , middle, cleans and dirty.
Hails

:lmao: As long as he doesn't degauss it by putting it in a toaster!

There are some who still answer his questions around here. I wish they'd just ignore him and maybe he'll go away.

Nope. Not you, man. Don't worry. ;)

Degauss it by putting it in a toaster? ROFLMFAO!!!!!!

So, what's the inductance of a toaster? Is it based on 2 slices or 4?
Does its inductance and capacitance change with the phases of the moon every Wednesday during high tide but only during the summer months when it's above 70 degrees and clear skies? :lmao:

Jolly my friend, you RAWK!

Those PG clips are awesome.

But I think I like the Epi/Alnico Pro clips even better.

You have a very good vibrato technique.

What amp ya using for those tracks?

Re: Pearly Gates combo for Hard Rock?

Also to add to the convo..

I've come full circle with pups too...from PAF styles when I first started playing to harder stuff like Distortions/JBs/Customs, and in recent years back to the PAF type stuff.

HO pups just are not very expressive/dynamic or versatile.

Re: Pearly Gates combo for Hard Rock?

Oh my good God!!!! JOLLY, bro. Those PG clips rock. I'm listening to Heavy Riff 2 and I'm having visions of Zakk Wylde. Absolutely killer, man.

And I agree with Jeff, I've found that for me now HO pickups just don't work. What about the CC you say? Well, to me it's not high output, more medium, but behaves like a lower output pickup.

I'm really impressed with the Line 6 amps and from what I understand Seymour even uses one! Heard Adrien Belew a few months ago using them and it was one of the best guitar shows I've ever been to. When Curly and I were at NAMM we spent some time in the Line 6 room and I was impressed enough to try and get the line for my new store. It's looking good. Anyways: nice playing Jolly-mon! Lew

Re: Pearly Gates combo for Hard Rock?

off topic question regrading this particular line 6 amp.
could someone reproduce jolly´s amazing distorted tone using a pod xt?
and i dont mean his playing, only the cool smooth distortion sound.

Re: Pearly Gates combo for Hard Rock?

I tried the PG in the bridge but it sounded a little too wirery for me, kind of lick a strat. A PG sounds great in the neck position though.

. . .you know, degaussing it in a microwave is much faster! You just need a fire extinguisher, and you can only use the microwave once. . .:fing2:
