Pearly Gates Neck/'59 Bridge?

Anyone have this combo? Was thinking of loading my SG Standard with this. Also been hearing people hyping the set of '59's and was warned about the PG in the bridge as being to shrill. Oh, I'm trying to get a fat, creamy vintage tone, with some Reverend Gibbons BBQ on top.

The PGn has a sweet fat tone.
The 59b is great classic rock pickup with lots of definition. It's bright - I wouldn't exactly call it "fat". It has an alnico 5 magnet, which usually renders punchy low end and bright top end. The alnico 2 pickups normally have more of a midrange emphasis, not quite as bright or punchy as the alnico 5 pickups.
The C5 reminds me of a 59, with a little less high end and a bit more power. It goes nicely with the PGn and the 59n too.

thanks stevo...for my intentions (Gibbons/Beano/Allman tones) would you roll with the PGN and Seth bridge? Or what setup would do it...I'm using an SG Standard.

I have that combo in PRS. Works for me. Go for it.

The PG bridge isn't shrill unless you are one of those types that insist on stupidly bright amp setups. I've played one in a few guitars and if anything its very early EVH sounding through my Marshalls.

My favorite classic rock setup is a seth bridge and 59n. The seth lover bridge has a great voice which is pretty versatile. It's not quite as bright as the 59n and it has more character in the midrange.
The 59n can sound boomy at times, especially at lower volumes with heavy distortion, but I really love the tone when playing at band volumes. It has a lot of character and it's more glassy than the a2 pickups that I have had.

I have lots of clips if you'd like to hear them.. a2pro, 59b, 59n, seth lovers, customs, lots more - mainly in LP and teles.

I tryed the PGN and hated the midrange spike and aggressiveness of the pickup..I went back to the 59N because I Like the eq better and it's a better pickup in my LP...

The 59 is pretty hard to beat in either position though...I have a 59N in my SG and a Dimarzio Fred in the bridge...

I'd wouldn't call the PG shrill at all. It has a nice bit of sass to it and a snarl in the highs. The PG+ is a different animal though and can be shrill through some setups.

For someone the PG is too bright for I recommend the A2P. It will warm up the darkest guitar.

Cool Stevo, I'd like to hear those clips. Have you ever heard a Seth bridge paired with a PGN? Whatever I can do to get that Rev Gibbons tone spitting from this SG...
