Pearly Gates Neck - Where Have You Been All My Life?

Re: Pearly Gates Neck - Where Have You Been All My Life?

IIRC, Aceman recommended a PG neck for my Dean Caddillac. I tried it, and it's pretty nice.

I think the excessive LP focus has maybe been where it has been hiding.

PG CC has to be a good combo in that!

I spoke to my guitar tech today. I haven't seen him in ages. I complained about the burstbucker pro pickups (He was not surprised) and asked him what he likes in a Les Paul. He told me basically everything I like from the demos I've heard on the site here: '59s, Seth Lover, Alnico II Pro, Pearly Gates. I told him I like a bit more beef and he said the Custom Custom is a great option.

PG is nice...Gibson Burstbucker sounds better!

It's kinda funny I see all the Classic '57's and Burstbucker's for sale that people are pulling out of their new Gibson's. I've been playing for quite some time and have tried most of the Duncan and Dimarzio humbuckers and too me...the Gibson's are the best.

In regards to burstbuckers, I think some people like certain pickups because of 1) the wood in a guitar 2) the amp / cab 3) the style one is playing 4) the sound one wants. The Burstbucker Pros (different magnet) in my Les Paul are absolutely excellent for high gain. Think modern channel on a Dual Rectifier. My complaint is that when you clean up the tone at all, the neck pickup sounds thin and brittle.

Well FWIW- after A/B ing my Epiphone Les Paul (which has a PG set) and my new PRS acoustically for about an hour , I went ahead and ordered ANOTHER set of PGs for the PRS. Although the Epi sounds pretty good plugged in, I think the PGs will sound much better in the PRS because it has significantly more beef, warmth, and note clarity than EPI does.

I'm slowly becoming a convert of the PG- nothing cooler in pickupdom than a pissed off PAF.- and frankly they are hard to find- everyone else is winding "smooth & sweet".
