Pearly Gates set starting to look like antiquities

I bought a covered pearly gates set last year for my Epiphone Joe Perry Boneyard. It sounds really nice but based on my work schedule I haven't been playing it as much as I should. I took it out tonight to restring it and give it a clean and polish and noticed the covers on the pearly gates are starting to look a little tarnished. They were shiny and polished when new. I must have acid sweat or something. I like the look as it is a rock n roll guitar, but wonder if anyone else has found similar aging. I've only had them about 18 months and have been mostly been playing my Strats this last year. I used some Dunlop 65 polish and it did nothing, so going to let them age naturally.

Hi,
Looks great, if only you could get the other one to match just a little.

It's very natural for nickel covers to wear/tarnish/age like that. Chrome keeps its shine. You can replace those covers with chrome if you like the shiny look, but those covers look great. The only thing that would look better is a bit more aging.

Nickel ages. If you live in a humid area it is worse. You can always change the covers (it is cheap and easy) to chrome ones and you won't have to worry about it. However, I like the way they look.

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't realize I was comparing nickel covers to the other pickups I have which are chrome. I like the way it is naturally aging and makes me want to play it more!

Nothing wrong with "bling". Sometimes bling is synonymous with "class" The whole idea behind the LP Custom was add more bling (7 ply body and head binding, full block pearl fret inlays, custom headstock pearl inlay, gold plated pup covers and hardware, some models with 3 pups) to make it the ultimate classy guitar.
