Pearly Gates vs Alnico 2 Pro

Hmmm, kind of wish I had sked this question before I bought the pickup. Again, I have a Tele with an alder bod, maple neck and fretboard. It's a pretty warm guitar, but not really "dark". I have a 59 in the neck now. One of my other Teles has an ash body and maple neck and fretboard. It has an APH-1n in the neck position. In fact, that Tele has Alnico 2 Pro pickups all through it (APH1-1n/neck, APS-1/middle, APTL-1/bridge).

This Tele has an SH-1n/neck, APS-1/middle, and an APTL-3JD/bridge. I'm hoping for a bright, punchy, warm neck humbucker with the PG. Here's a pic of it as it is now.

You'll be fine, I think. The PGn is going to bump up the high mids a bit and cut some bass out without really affecting the highs. It's a very pleasant sound.

I've got a jazz 35th anniversary that I think is really killer. Best neck pickup I've had in a guitar so far.

Took a jazz bridge out of the neck position and swapped the 35th version in for it. A5 neck humbuckers are what I prefer though.

To my ears A2P's have a warmer bridge & a bit more bite in the neck, which I sometimes increase with an UOA5. PG's have a bigger EQ difference between bridge & neck, and that doesn't work for me.

Just checked my archives: A2pro and PG bridge are stated has having almost the same DCR and a really close inductance (4.67H & 4.6H respectively). But the PG has the distinctively narrower resonant peak that I've just evoked in another thread - and giving it this high mids focused response mentioned above...
I remember to have played a LP replica with a PG bridge and an A2pro in neck position decades ago: it didn't work well. The A2pro was softer and noticeably bassier, forcing to change the amp settings for each pickup position.

Got the PGn installed this morning. Got the height settings worked out too. Tonwise, a little brighter than the A2P but still the same sweetness, Mids are nice and warm. I'll try a little louder today and with a little OD. I'm starting to play in a new band here in St. Augustine. First one since moving here in 2019. Looking forward to it very much. Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. Been a while since I've been on this board. Nice to be back.

St. Augustine FL? Only a couple of hours from here. Let me know when you guys are playing - maybe I’ll come see you play!

I could bring a caddy with PG’s and one with A2P’s

That would be super cool. They play at Tradewinds every Sunday, from 1pm - 5pm. I haven't started playing yet. Hoping to start 11/7.
