Apparently so. Or someone changed it to 3 conductor. My PG's have 4 conductor with a red and white that I solder together.

That's an old MJ wound PG from the 1980's, BTW, in the photo. That pickup is at least 30 years old.

The paper tape is really old and its hard to tell. The wax on the pickup feels consistent from the tape to the base plate so maybe its not tempered with but it might be potted after the wire is changed.

I measured the bare and red wire and got 8.2K which is about the same DCR as described.

How do I tell which year is this humbucker made?

I bought three Duncan pickups in the late spring of 1994 (at least two of which I had to wait to have built) and they all had stickers with initials.

This PGB was made between 1983 und 1988, it has the big backlogo without MIA and a small tag with a winder initial.

To the orgininal OP: Look under the black sleeve. Maybe there are is a black and a green conductor cut off and hidden under the sleeve.

I have a mj pearly gates bridge like that but it's 4 conductor at 7.8 dcr. It sounds divine
