Re: Peavey 5150 combo vs JCM900 combo

I dont think he ment to start anything bro! I think you took what he said and showed your A$$ way too much! I looked at his post and his coment did not warrant what you gave back to him.

Re: Peavey 5150 combo vs JCM900 combo

I'd probably go with the 5150, simply because I'm a big fan of soldano, and the 5150 is modelled along those lines. I can't stand the higher gain 900 tone. It sounds okay with the gain wound right back, though.

Re: Peavey 5150 combo vs JCM900 combo

teens now a days know how to make money, and thats a fact.
if DSS has a spoiled atitude or not thats his problem,at 14 he´s still got alot ahead of him,and it aint age that defines good or bad CHARACTER.
my 2 cents:
jcm 900 dual reverb are very fat sounding and can cope the guns,ac/dc sounds no prob.
but no way they have as much gain and definition as a 5150 or xxx.

in a perfect world i would have both of em,and my classic 50.

Re: Peavey 5150 combo vs JCM900 combo

In case you didn't read the first post, the JCM900 combo is a MkIII 2501 Master Volume, not a Dual Reverb. The Master Volumes have more gain than the DR's. A lot more. The SL-X (or MkIV) has about as much gain as the 5150.

Re: Peavey 5150 combo vs JCM900 combo

I tried a 6505, which is supposed to be a reissue of the 5150's, in a shop one time and I thought it have a much tight kind of metal gain than my jcm 900 amp. I guess the 5150 would be better for the modern type of metal these days.

Re: Peavey 5150 combo vs JCM900 combo

The 6505 and 5150 is the same amp. They may have changed a component here or there for whatever reason but when EVH left, the 5150 name went with him, hence the 6505 name.

I haven't played the 6505's yet. The 5150 combos were just so dang noisy and buzzy. Horrible.

Yup thats exact how I thought it was, buzzy distortion, but thats great for the metal stuff they play these days.

Very true. I guess the amp was really ahead of it's time...LOL. I expected a lot more out of the combo since I had played/owned the head version. In fact, the combo came out when I did still own a 5150 head, first edition.
