Changing out the speakers. Just ordered the halfstack. What are the ohms? Are they only dictated by what speakers are in there or is it also part of the head? My first all tube amp.

O.O dude, you don't even know what the stock speakers are, but you're already changing them? ..... O_o .....

Re: peavey 6505+ cabinet......

Ohms are basically defines the resistance that speakers apply to the output from the amp. Higher it is, more the resistance is. Most modern tube amps today support 4/8/16ohm cabinet options. Consult your amp's manual and cabinet before you make any changes.

I also agree with super rad. Why change them before even you try them?

Cause I like celestions. Have played through amps at my local Guitar Villa. All three amps I played through had either Celestion 30s, G12T-75s, or K-100s. Was going to play a amp with Greenbacks, but it was sold. I think the store did it purposely. lol

^ Liking Celestion speakers doesn't mean you automatically don't like Sheffield's.

I would save the energy but that's me...

exactly. there's a ton of people who use a stock 6505+ and get a great tone out of it. i'd say save yourself the backbreaking work and extra $350-$500 for when you really start wanting to get a drastic change in tone, especially when you haven't even experienced the tone of what you've already got!

Re: peavey 6505+ cabinet......

ok the 5150/6505 range of amps was designed for and with EVH who loved Greenbacks... i'm sure the sound of the Sheffields will be different then other speakers but i love mine... my old 5150 cab sounds great!

Re: peavey 6505+ cabinet......

Yeah, try the stock cab for a while before you go swapping stuff out.

Take it from me, who's spent plenty of money experimenting with speaker combos; most modern amps/cabs are designed in tandem for a reason. ;)

Re: peavey 6505+ cabinet......

^ the same could be said about vintage ****. I've been trying to find the matching cab for my 68 bassman for years!!

Yeah, I suppose that's true for a lot of vintage gear as well. Fender always did have great matching cabs for their stuff.
