does anyone have one of these im trying to get a good metal sound out of it ,but im having a hard time finding the right sound .

I don't own one but i have played thru one... they seem like you should be able to get a metal tone out of them of some sort.... but maybe just not quite the tone you'll after.... these Trans Tube series are loud solid state amps..... not quite the heavy Metal tube thunder you would get from Peavey's 5150..... or Modded Marshalls or Boggies like a alot of Metal Bands use... When it comes to metal i think the low end thump is the biggest factor in good metal sounds... cut your Mid Range back and boost your bass controlls on the bandit... Dail in Treble until it sounds good...

-And contrary to popular belief, try LOWERING the amount of gain you are using. Cranking the gain to 10 is a common mistake that most times won't give you the best tone you can get.

Thanks , I did a search on here and ive pretty much come to the conclusion that the bandit just sucks! No one really had anything good to say about them. Any recommendations for a new amp to get this metal sound im after. Looking for the same price range or slightly higher. Or should i just get a tube and to get the sound im looking for?

Look into the new Crate line of affordable tube amps- all the one's I've tried out sounded pretty good.
I came to this conclusion about 15 years ago, when the first generation of Bandits came out- and I was working for the largest Peavey dealer in the south at that time- I have a real bad feeling towards Peavey guitar amps in general, although alot of folks love the 5150's and amps of that ilk- I just have developed a stigma about Peavey amps, they always seem to be overpowered, but, I do like their Bass amps- seem to do a real good job.jacksonrules said:

IMO the newer Bandits suck a$s! I have one & the 'modern' channel is awful! If I came across anyone wanting to swap for one of the older ones with the little grey 'thrash' & 'gain' buttons, I'd jump on it! The older ones have a much more natural sound & feel to me, even though they arent tube.

The thing is, the Bandid is the best amp in it's price range! For the money it's not a bad amp either. It's a starters amp or a rent-a-practise space amp, not a good amp if you are looking for great metal tone like all the bands you love.
Get a good pedal if you want chunky metal tone, bandids take pedals very well since they tend to be a little 'neutral' sounding IMHO.

Line 6 Ubermetal
Modded Boss MT-2 (not the stock one!)
Rocktron Silver Dragon

Oh - that's all. On a Bandit, Gain 7, Bass 6, Mid 3, Treble 7, presence 8, Volume about 6. Tube dynamics at around 60%, powerfull up. Why didn't you just ask?
Besides the amp, is everything else in order? CHOPS, axe, pup, effects, CHOPS!!!!!!
Better idea put a post out on AMP, GUITAR, and PUP forums for how to do that without a gazillion $$$ worth of genz-benz, vintage Randall, and eventide gear....

I have a Bandit 112S, and I like it. LesStrat sounds good through it.
OTOH, the Parker Fly Deluxe sound better through the POD xt Live.
Bang/buck ratio is good on the Bandit. It's not a Matchless or a Dumble, but then again, it doesn't cost that much either.
The EQ settings are rather sensitive. Tweak them a little at a time, and you'll find quite a bit of variety.

You won't find Mr. Scary in it, though, at least not without a bunch of other stuff. I have a Peavey Transtube Studio Pro 112, and that thing is flexible! By working the channels, gain boost & scoop I can an awful lot of basic tones. The presence and tube dynamics on a Bandit would be even more flexible. That said, Mr. Jacksonrules picked one of the few distinctive tones to come out of the 80's, or guitar for that matter. The basic fuzz/crunch of Lynch's tone, should be no big deal. But that's only the first 10% in my opinion. The rest comes from Chops/Fingers/Heart and is follwed up with some judicious effects treatment.
