Peavey evh wolfgang special

Does anyone know how good these guitars are? There is one on my local cl for 275 and I'm tempted to buy it. But I've never played one, so I don't know how well they are built or how they play.

Re: Peavey evh wolfgang special

Ive heard the USA made specials were good. Ive heard mixed things about the Korean import specials though; mostly negative. Never know though, go give it a try if you can.

Re: Peavey evh wolfgang special

I would just hunt down a Chinese made Predator. They are much better balanced and playing instruments.

Re: Peavey evh wolfgang special

Would either of these play better than an epi les Paul or so? I'm looking for a good guitar under 500, would really love dual humbuckers

Completely different instruments. Wolfgang is a Fender scale length (25.5") Epi Les Paul is 24.75". Maple board vs. Rosewood. Asymmetrical neck profile vs. 60's rounded. The Wolfgangs mostly have Floyd Rose systems. The Les Paul is a tune-o-matic. Are you familiar enough with Floyd's to perform basic maintenance and restringing?

But...under $500? Too many options to count. How about these?

I'd go with something from PRS

Words are cheap, let your fingers do the talking

Re: Peavey evh wolfgang special

If you are a Wolfy fan, The American Specials can be found for 500.00 ish on the bay. When VH started touring again with DLR the Special prices for whatever reason went through the roof? The prices are back down now.

Re: Peavey evh wolfgang special

I wouldn't let country of manufacture sway you one way or the other. I've owned American Peavey's that have sat long enough to have problems. They put out QUALITY import stuff. Look for factory "seconds" they go for dirt cheap and go back through the QC process for re-evaluation, often times coming out better than store displayed stuff.

My big problem with the Wolfgangs in general is balance. That short horn and light body give the instrument TERRIBLE balance. The things are neck heavy. Go with a heavier, bigger body.

For that price . . . i would deff get it - IF, that is the type of guitar that you like !
What colour ?

I have a big soft spot for them, and would love to have one before the end of this year.
I am looking into something like this;

Re: Peavey evh wolfgang special

I had one about 10 years ago.

Frankly it was the best "super strat" style guitar I ever had. And that includes a bunch of old MIJ Charvies, Ibbys, a Nightswan, and even a couple USA Jacksons. I am just not a superstrat guy so I dumped it. But it had a fantastic feel and tone.

Re: Peavey evh wolfgang special

You guys are all giving great advice. I'm working on talking the guy down to 225, or I'm going to go try and find a used prs se custom 22 for pretty cheap

Re: Peavey evh wolfgang special

I'd save up and look for a used EVH Wolfgang Special. Stainless frets, compound radius board, better sounding pickups

Re: Peavey evh wolfgang special

I just got a USA wolfgang hard tail and its outstanding. Id save your money and get a used MIJ special off ebay or something. Before they moved production to china, the jap made ones were supposed to be on par with the usa made ones, just with a flat maple top
