I just saw Turbonegro on Saturday and Pol Pot Pamparius was running an Explorer through one of these amps. It sounded pretty cool...anyone played one before? Not looking to buy one, just curious to see what they're like.

Jay..... i take it you are in the Toronto area..... i never heard of that band... what are they like...

i have not herad that Peavey yet but oneday i'll have to get my butt into Cosmos or somewhere that sells Peaveys to hear one myself!

Re: Peavey Penta

I'm in Mississauga, but the show was at the Phoenix. I was in Pongetti's in Hamilton ages ago and the guy there was saying how good the Penta stacks up against some Marshalls. It's just so inexpensive that I find it hard to believe it will hold up over time.

The band is a great blend of pure rock and some punk. They're fantastic live.

Re: Peavey Penta

The concept behind the amp was decent. A rotary dial of amp tones, and the ability to switch between two of them. The problem is that only 1 or 2 sound good, and the rest aren't so good. It's not a bad classic toned amp, but it's not worth the price tag IMO.

Re: Peavey Penta

I tried one as soon as they came out and with some tweaking you can get some decent tones out of it but nothing special IMO. I also felt like the speaker cab AND the speakers were pretty terrible on top of that it was way over priced IMO and under built...it just felt kind of cheap, whioch woudl be fine if it didn't cost so much.

Re: Peavey Penta

I tried one, as the idea of the amp seemed cool and I was wondering about George Lynch's influence on the amp (it was going to be his signature).

It's not terrible by any means, but none of the individual sounds really blew me away to the point where I'd want to grab one. It'd be a bargain if they moved production to China and sold it at the same price as the Windsor.
