Well I got myself a copy of Peavey's mgagic virtual amp thing.
This is mainly so I don't have to set my rig up to play my guitar and also so I could record stuff without messing about with microphones and cables and stuff.
Now I got myself the HP 'evalution' edition as it was less than £50, which is cheap in my book, so I've only effectively got four different amps to play with and a few stomp boxes. You can, I've been lead to understand, easily update to the full version at a later date if you choose.
First impression is that this is a pretty decent sounding bit of kit, tad scooped in the mids for some reason, but it does sound like a proper amp.
What I also noticed is that's it's sodding noisy. I don't mean a little bit of mains hum but shed loads of squelchy digital originated noise that oddly diminishes when you start playing. Obviously this gets worse the more gain you use. Apparently this is less of a problem on the fall version which makes me a tad suspicious of Peavey marketing.
Another down side is the controls that are not that easy to get to grips with.
Another issue, and this is more with Cubase than revalver, is that when recording you don't seem to be able to monitor what revalver is doing so you play clean and then play it back and it sounds completely different.
I did try running revalver at the same time as Cubase but that just didn't work as they're both a bit resource heavy and thus both had a bit of a hissy fit.
Next thing to try is the pre-amp out of my Ashdown into revalver to see how that sounds.
