Re: peavey ted nugent signature amp.....

Wow, it never ceases to amaze me how some people that haven't been musically relevent in the past 20 years (or if ever in the case of Gonzo to be honest) get signature gear.

I mean maybe a signature compound bow or something hunting related sure, maybe even a semi hollow body guitar, but an amp ?

Was the Nudge ever really know for his tone in the first place to be a signature amp type guy ?

Well.....its not like its a real amp. Its a peavey, don't worry.

Re: peavey ted nugent signature amp.....

Yeah, it's called the 'Love Grenade', and it's based on a tweaked 5150.

Re: peavey ted nugent signature amp.....

i'll be interested in this amp... first i love 5150's so if it's based on that sound but slightly better it maybe for me...

Ted did have a signature guitar as well last year by Ed Roman.... it had a hidden compartment in the back to hold a small gun...

Re: peavey ted nugent signature amp.....

hahahahahaha

ted nugent cracks me up. My dad was actually eating lunch in a town he was working in, turned around and saw the nuge eating right behind him.

So let us know when you have your first musically relevant moment will you?

Nuge is a monster Rock guitar player even if he isn't your bag. He was one of the largest touring acts in the country and while that was quite sometime ago it doesn't mean it didn't happen. He has always had a smokin guitar sound, his wall o' Fender is legendary, the Amboy Dukes recorded one of the most important guitar songs of their era and he has had a career that most of us would give both nuts for.

I am in no danger of setting the world a flame with my playing but I will certainly be checking out the amp if it makes it to production.

Well, they let Boston grunt out release after release and those guys almost make Nugent seem as relevant today as Coldplay.

Darned shame about Delp though. Every year we used to get together and have a big old BBQ and listen to ever Boston album they'd made....well...it's kinda hard to tell as it's mostly the same album over and over again...but at any rate we'd fire up the grill and have a blast but in light of recent events it was officially deemed "in bad taste."

Exactly, WAS

Today the guy is more known for his politics and other antics than his music.

I'm not knocking his music (though personally he even makes gun crazed nut jobs probably think "wow this guy is making us all look bad") but come out.

Going into the year 2008 is the Motor City Mad Man really the best choice for a signature amp ?

Seriously, He'd sell more assult rifles bearing his name than guitar amps I bet.

Though that all said, I did hear that former creed guitarist, Mark Tremoni or whowever its spelled is getting a signature pickup so maybe in this crazy world a Nudge amp isn't the wildest thing I've heard :scratchch

Re: peavey ted nugent signature amp.....

why is anybody here talking crap about Uncle Ted?

he's done more in music then any of you.

Re: peavey ted nugent signature amp.....

Love him or hate him, Nuge has done alot in music.. He was legendary with the Amboy Dukes stuff (I still LOVE Journey to the center of the Mind), his solo stuff, **** Yankees..
Yeah, Ive never know him to be a tone God, but he has credibility.. And a Modified 6505 isnt any different than a Kerry King Marshall..

Re: peavey ted nugent signature amp.....

Well Wixomwhat, I do have to say that being your 21, I'm impressed you know about "Uncle Ted" since not many your age do. Which is in itself a shame that so many younger people are missing out on tons of great music. Trust me, I worked at a music store and talked with tons of kids who came in and their idea of "classic rock" was Limp Bizkit and Korn sigh.........

That all aside, can you HONESTLY tell me that you've ever once thought to yourself "The Nudge is awesome, what I wouldn't give for a signature model of his amp ?"

I would be darn surprised if Ted himself even thought he needs a signature amp.

Signature gear is simply about marketing you do realize right ? Even if an artist doesn't have their "signature model" for sale at Guitar City, they are almost always playing a custom shop build guitar, modded amp etc. Its just not a mass produced unit for sale to you and me at major retailers.

Its just when some marketing type thinks they can cash in on that artist name and sell more guitars with the "signature version" do they do it.

I mean come on, Zakk Wylde has signature Epiphones and Marshall "stack" and you know what ? He's not using either of them. Same with Kerry King, etc etc.

I've seen very very few "signature" items that aren't a dumbed down version of something the artist actually uses.

As I said, its about marketing.

And in that marketing, you pick an artist thats who's name is going to sell the gear.

Kids will come in and see Zakk Wylde on a mini marshall "stack" and buy it because of that (**** did those things sound horrible though) or because its got a bullseye graphic etc.

Again, music store employee here, watched it happen over and over each and every day. You work in a music store ever ?

So how does a Nugent amp make sense in that regard ?

EVH, Slash, Dimebag, Wylde, Kerry King etc. Those guys make sense because each and every day I had kids coming in wanting to sound like them. Its worth paying them a royality because their name sells more gear. Smart business.

Heck, you make a Bellamy line of pedals, even if its cheap crap and you'd sell a ton of them to every impressional Muse fan around (I personally really like Bellamy by the way).

Now I'm not from MI, so maybe thats the difference, but never, I repeat NEVER once did I ever have anyone come in and ask about getting the Nudge sound. Maybe its a local thing though in your part of the US, I don't know.

So then, with what we've learned about signature gear, can you argue its a smart business move to market a Nudge amp ?

Its not about his music, its about his marketability.

Nudge has done far more than I likely ever will in music, I agree 100% there, but his sig amp and my sig amp both would sell about as well

In closing though, I will say that if they package it with a loin cloth that would be pretty **** awesome =)

Re: peavey ted nugent signature amp.....

Millsart-

You make some great points!
I think you are right about nobody ever saying "i want Ted Nugent's tone", even here in Michigan.

I think though he does have a great tone and is a monster player. He needs to show that off a bit more though I think.
The real problem is though that his hunting and politics and all that over shadow his playing and controbutions to music.

Re: peavey ted nugent signature amp.....

Back when I was in high school (1968 thru 1971) we use to go hear the Amboy Dukes play at many locations. Clubs, high schools, parks......fantastic days. It was a whole differant era back then and guys like Ted were considered to be gods for us young kids who were just starting to learn how to play. The Amboy dukes were all monster players and were very cool people to boot. Whether Ted is deserving of signature gear is a differant topic, but I'll never forget those early days. It was a crazy time to have been around.
