Peavey Transtube Question

I own a peavey 2x12 Transtube special.

the thing is.... i dont know anything about it. :dammit:

Does anyone know how this amp series works?

i also assume its a high gain type amp...

is it tube or solid state?

please guys, tell me all you know.

it's a solid state amp. i tried one but didn't like it too much. peavey, in general, is too nasal sounding for me.

The Transtube Series are Solid State amps that are designed to emulate the sounds of a tube amp. I still have my first amp, the 15 watt Blazer 150, and the tone was actually decent from it now that I look back.

Nasal??? come on!!! peavey´s amplifiers are built like tanks and they dont sound nasal, well it really depends on your settings, but they have a good low end... specially the transtube series... i have a XXL head

yeah man. peavey amps have an annoying mid that dominates the whole sound. the only peaveys that i liked were the classic series and the 5150.

I've had my Special 212 for about two months now, I sold my Crate GT1200 halfstack for it, and I love it, blows the Crate away. Three channels with the footswitch is so convenient, and it took weeks, but I finally got the sucker dialed in. With the Crate, I'd recorded myself and it seemed to have a certain "quack" to the sound. The Peavey definitely has some nasty mids, but if you spend some time dialing it in, you can get some great tones, for just about everything.

Edit: In response to your questions, here's everything I know :smokin:

solid state
3 channels: clean, lead, and ultra, ultra being a high gain metal channel
footswitchable fx loop
130 watts into two Sheffield 1230 speakers, with a 200 watt 8 ohm speaker out
you can only use the lead channel with the footswitch
comes with Accutronics reverb

I own a bunch of Peaveys tube amps but i have never bought any of their solid state stuff as i have not found the right ones for me... but it is well built stuff... Loud as hell.... A lot of the time they are good value for the money..

Best clean sounds i have ever heard in my life was when i was at the old (now closed down) Peavey warehouse in Toronto about 10 years ago and in a side room they had a ton of older and damaged amps piled up high... i tried out some sort of 2x12 solid state chorus amp and my god it was amazing!!!!!!!! Wish i had bought it!

The classic 30's bass is lacking. And ive never really found any peavey amp to have great tight lows, but they normaly have some really nice mids. Built really well.

Well it balances out nice with my rickenbacker which is very throaty. :smokin:

But yea, my classic does sort of have annoying mids, but theres an easy way to fix that, scoop. Doesn't sound right with a humbucker or high-gain, but for midgain and singles it sounds good.

really.... normally i prefer my C30 preamp pushed to the limits and a good volume with humbucker loaded strats and Gibson style guitars.... But i have noticed when i play with the EQ it does make my MIM stock tele sound great!!!!! I never liked Single coils before thru the Classic amps before, but i am starting to!!!! I now use my C30 and that Tele for pretty much any jamming i do....

I have found that my Bandit 112S is quite responsive to LesStrat. A little tweaking goes a long way.

OTOH, it really does not work well with my Parker Fly Deluxe.

But, I took it to rehearsal a while back, and the other guitarist (who is a tone-hound) was shocked at the tone I got with LesStrat and the Bandit. He couldn't believe it was a solid state amp. Of course, he would have if I had played the Parker in it.

It's all about matching the guitar and the amp, and tweaking both to get YOUR sound.
