Peavey Ultra 60 head

zero element

I've got a Peavey ultra 60 head and its my first tube head and I know nothing about tube besides the fact that this tube amp sounds awesome for its price. This amps gain is awesome but what type of tubes should I use to get some more gain out of it if their are tubes that do that. Like I said I know nothing about tube amps. Are there any other tips or suggestions you got for me and types of tubes to use? The guy who sold it to me, who I know says it needs tubes change. Thanks in advance.

I'd get 2 JJ 6L6's (I think it's 6L6's). Most of the pre tubes are probably fine, but I'd change the one furthest from the power tubes (pos. 1) with a Groove Tube 12AX7C. Make sure it has the C after it. They always tighten up a highgain preamp section, and make it sound as good as possible.

www.revolutionguitar.com has the best selection of popular tubes at the lowest prices.

Thanks, and wow I thought tubes would be a bit more expensive, but hey Im not complaining.

There's only one thing that's cheaper now, than in the 80's.....tubes.
It's because the cold war ended, and Russia, Yugoslavia, and China flooded the market with surpus military tubes. All the companies rebranded them in the 90's, but they were still cheap.
