Peavey Valve King

im thinking about buying a valve king head. i dont know if it can get the right heaviness that i need but im not saying it cant. if anyone has played one could you tell me how the low end is on it. and if i need to what kind of distortion or overdrive pedal would be good to run to get some good low end?

Re: Peavey Valve King

The low end is nice and tight, yet still has a nice 'boom' kind of feel to it. It's got a lot of gain on tap, so you should be set for heaviness.
(If your playing in anything lower than D, it might be different. I played my friends in standard and drop d on his ibanez)

Re: Peavey Valve King

ive been thinking about this amp too. I dont play metal at all. Im after i suppose what could be called a classic rock crunch. Sort of Warren Haynes sounding. Sometimes i like to crank the gain to play some satch sounding stuff. but i do have a bad monkey. Right now i have a Cube 60. Its a great amp, but i really wants a tube amp. Would a VK 50 be a good amp. i dont want a half stack, or 100 watts.

Re: Peavey Valve King

The low end is very big and can be rumbly, if thats a word. With a pedal it will tighten up, but with the resonance knobs that peavey uses, i wouldnt worry about low end.

Re: Peavey Valve King

We're in the process of buying the 1x12 combo for our music club out here. I'm looking forward to giving it a blast.

Re: Peavey Valve King

I've played all the models and I gotta say..for the Price they sound Pretty Primo, Definatly gonna be picking one of them up in the "Near" future

Re: Peavey Valve King

use a digitech bad monkey for the boost

are you saying that because the amp doesn't have enough gain or because you dig that pedal for adding more? i played a combo and it had more than enough gain. i had to back off even when playing some metal madness riffage so the notes didn't get lost in the fizz somewheres.

My one cousin has the 100W 2x12 combo . . .

. . . what type of sound do you want from it ?

With out knowing that, i would describe the ValveKing, as a "5150-lite".

Atleast, that is what my cousin is calling his !

Re: Peavey Valve King

The 50 watt Valve King i played almost made me wanna sell my Bassman head.

Almost.

I don't think there's an amp in the world that can't do "heavy," but this one does it pretty well without any pedals or anything. You COULD dig it...try before you buy heh.

No he asked what Overdrive to use with it, monkey works well with it. I owned the head for about 24 hours before i took it back. I think it sounds its best through the XXX cab which i normally don't like.

Mmmmm, extra pedals with the ValveKing ?

My cousinn has a Slash Wah from Jim Dunlop (w. gain knob) and an MXR 10Band EQ (sold his GE-7 for it)

The MXR, (as you might know already) has Two extra sliders apart from the 10 EQ's !

1) a Vol. Slider
2) a Gain Slider

. . . and with the gain of the wah (when needed) he does NOT need any more gain ! YMMV though :eek13:

Re: Peavey Valve King

what about the 50 112. All i hear is people asking if it's suitable for metal. I want to know if it has a good hard rockin crunch. I play lots of classic rock, and newer harder rock. I dont want a really fizzy naisily high gain amp. But i really like the price tag on the VK.

ps. i already own a Bad Monkey. And yeah, amazing OD.
