The_Chris, it doesn't sound like a solid-state amp... it might have more solid state tendencies than a JCM 2000, but definetly sounds better than the XXL did.
I compared it to a Crate V50 i think it was... about the same set-up.. 50 watts, 2 power tubes, 1 12" speaker... but the crate had EL34's I think... and I liked the sound of the peavey a bit more.
