Bullet Proof Toneologist
Finally got a chance to make a clip of the VTM 60 post tweaks.... Stock I find these amps just like the 80s Laney Pro Tubes, which is too much in the upper mids. I like a more vintage and open voice. Clipped bright cap, went to 33k on the input resistors, and .68 on the presence cap. Tossed a 12au7 in 1 and 4 and then tossed a set of RCA 6l6 in the amp. The high gain channel does exactly what I want, which is to respond to every nuance of the guitar, clean up when the volume is rolled back, and roar when needed. This amp now covers all my vintage needs, and still has all the boosts, and tons more gain on tap, even with the 12au7 tubes. Master is dimed, the pre is only around 3, so there is plenty more if I want it. I am not really seeing a need for a bias pot, or a switch to EL34s, it has plenty of British snarl as is...
