Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Oh I was so proud. Now the little devil rings, like a ringing in your ear, but it IS the amp. I tried everything. Switched cables, changed every possible setting, also on guitar. The louder the master volume, the louder the ringing. Nothing I do w/EQ matters, or guitar volume or pups.
HALP Driving me fkn nuts-had to quit after 20. Hurts my ears, even tho it's not real loud.
Does it w/out guitar plugged in, even.

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Mine neither
Mine is a VIP2

Let me look real quick at the manual and see what to do for the factory reset

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Hold buttons A & B (should be the first two buttons next to the input jack)
While turning the amp on

Should return to factory fresh

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Funkytown. Ehd, you know me too well. I was about to write I can't find decent instructions on googs or YT. One said find buttons 1 & 2 on stomp and amp knobs.

5 or 6 later, one said hold down B & D and power up. Did that (after a lot of other crap), still ringing. Back to YT, got distracted, then I noticed it quit the ringing. Normal (right?) small hum there, always has been. The ringing has not. Anyway, every demo I found was with VIP 2s. FIXED.
Musta got my mojo back-or it was my technical expertise.

Thanks, both ya'll

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

I don't get a hum, either. Dimmer switches? Transformers?

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

SOB! Wifi? My whole house is wifi. You're not gonna believe this. I wasn't paying attn, doing something else, and hum is gone, too. Still crackles like hell when I plug in guitar, but quits when in all the way. Ehd's gonna be LHAO. I think he's my personal tech.

I'm starting to think it has to be WELL warmed up. I keep my house cold when I can. Right now 45F out, probably 50-58 indoors. Try to keep guitar room around 60F and 40% humidity, but I can't really control that. Actually, I don't think I had these probs till I moved amp to leaky window (= colder, damper)

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Maybe you could get a mini fridge isolation cabinet

Chill Out darned lil amp

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

It's in my garage. I KNEW I was saving it for something. Amp cab. Vypyr cage. VIP box. Peavey protector. Old lil frig.

It would fit, too. I could only let it out when I wanted.

Possessed, like everything else in this 78 yr old house.

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

starts humming
give it a time out

you wanna go back in the fridge young man
then stop that humming

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Heavy sigh. It must be interference. Computer, printer, pile of snakes out the window tomorrow and move vypyr back to happy corner.
And I screwed up the presets and it's ringing AND dirty now. Reverb in my head and ringing in my ears I'm going to bed.

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

And the beat goes on. . .

Ringing seems to be master volume related. Turn it to 0, no ringing; vol up, ringing up.

@Ehd: when you get back into your chair, tell me what you think about that :smoker:

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Most things stop squealing when the plug is all the way in

The crackling is the signal trying to come across that iffy connection
Until you have it inserted all the way

If you touch the live end of a jack
That's a guitar cord plugged into the amp but not the guitar
It will howl as well

Try to keep things fully inserted
If the socket is a bit worn or it has did a face plant recently
Then the jack socket may be damaged

Oh, just checking. Yes everything's fine when all the way in-isn't it always?:censored:

The ringing problem still exists, unless master volume on 0. The louder the vol, the louder the ring. I'm moving it back to the other side of the wifi equipment. We shall see. My current (snigger) theory.

@Dev, it was fun enough at 20w when the presets went off and I wasn't looking when gain was all the way cranked. Plenty enough fun. I only did it twice.

Oh yeah-there's plenty of guys online complaining about VIP ringing, not just me. But no answers. #$%^

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Yeah, those loud pops can be damaging to equipment (and ears/nerves), but if others are complaining about the amp, the best fix may be a new amp (sorry to say that).

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Oh, sorry, thought it was one you had for a while. Yes, based on personal experience, Sweetwater should take good care of you. But for future reference, loud pops are bad, m' kay. :kabong:

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

D'OH!! Sweetwater is sending me a new new one. I think this is a bigger prob than people know. All I had to say was I did the reset a few times and that the loudness of the ringing is directly proportional to the master volume. Pretty nice of them, since I bought it in August. Welcome to last week!
Thanks a lot for your help. And you too, Slick Ehd. :friday:
