Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

I think the world.of Sweetwater service

They are great

You gotta send the old one back or they just sending you a label to return it in the same package

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

They gave me a choice. Send it now, or wait for the new one with box AND label. Cool. And my guarantee has been over for 60 days. After all the surfing I did, I think they may have a little problem here and there. A few bad apples from faaar away. . . almost ordered a 2, but showed remarkable restraint. I'm lucky enough.
Maybe I'll get more fireballs for quitting cigs. . . someday. Buy a few more things I don't need. Pink Cadillac. . .

The earliest I read of this problem was with the 6505s.

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

My VIP2 doesn't do this at all
I bought mine used
The plastic corners have all broken off

The Tolex is scuffed

Sounds great

Probably just some soldering snafu

Your new one should be fine

May be a scorpion crawled inside, and is auditioning for a place in the band

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

The different non-effect noises I can get, I'd say it's probably an asian vypyr, instead of an arachnid.

Yup. Read about soldering snafus. And switches. And stuff.

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

When you get a properly working one, the Peavey sounds better than the Mustangs, or the Valvetronix modeling amps. And much better than the Line 6 Spider ones.

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

I forgot to ask if shipping overnight. UPS. Yeah, I can't wait. I was getting really stressed.

Just FYI, yours is digital and the 6505 are all tube, totally different beasts and the cause of the noise is probably very different.

Glad Sweetwater is taking care of you!

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Thx 4 the edu, D. Tubes v solid state, right? I don't even know what solid state is, but I know tubes. I grew up with them in the TV.

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

oh sorry
thats
tubes
solid state
modeling

three distinctly different things

the VIP is a modeler

the Bandit is Solid State ( great sounding solid state )

and the 6505 tube

the Peavey Classic is also a great sounding Tube amp

modeling uses an idealized tone print of a great amp which you can tweak a bit
it doesnt react to distortion and overdrives the same as a tube amp would

but neither does the solid state
while solid states sound good and some even sag a bit when you dig in
it just aint the same

my Joyo Ultimate Drive sounds so-so with my SS laney
kinda likes the single coils best, really sounded horrible with Humbuckers

it just screams with the Tube Carvin Belair Tweed amp
didnt matter the pickups, it liked them all

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Thanks Ehdwuld, yes 3 basic types of amps, it annoys me (but I've learned to try to keep my mouth shut) when people refer to modeling amps as solid state, while the circuitry is solid state, it is totally different from an analog solid state amp like a Bandit or Randall RG.

So Tex, let us know when you get the new one and how it works out for you.

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Aaaah crap. Been sick. Messed w/new amp today. Same chit. Until someone proves otherwise, here are my findings: a houseful of wifi is not good. Ungrounded plugs with adapters don't seem to matter compared to a real outlet. The black boxes they put in your house for wifi are a major problem. Even if carry (thank got it's not VIP2) it across house and through doors and around corners. I did all that easy stuff like double check cables, etc. Amps hate ANY MFI, which comes from the phone in your ass pocket to your neighbor's dog. All the wifi in the house and those black boxes are a couple of the culprits. To fix, shield guitars (I only have cheap ones, so there ya go), fix crappy pots. New amp rings all over the house. Not its fault. Then I found this:

http://www.gilmourish.com/?p=1211

There is Noise Troubleshooting Part I and Part II. I didn't read any comments. Somebody else do it. Please.

Also, coz of Ehd & The Mincer, I'm thinking if I bought a guitar that cost more than $99.99. . . .

REMAINING UNFIXED

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Tomorrow try LP and Strat. Then carry amp outside and try. May have to move into garage.

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Yeah, I was going to ask if you had tried different locations...

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Oh noooooo

Is it a high pitched humm?

Are you sure your ears aren't ringing

Which guitar is it

Are you using an instrument cable or a speaker cable
A speaker cable between the amp and guitar will ring like the Dickens

Well it is close to Thanksgiving so a little Dickens shouldn't be so bad

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Mornin, gentlemen. Yeah, changed locations on first and second ones. Didn't try outside yet, though. A valuable diagnostic, I believe. Besides, I hate the neighbors across the street. Guess which way it will be aimed??

Need some kind of dickins. Got 2 amp cables, 1 from Slamazon, and one custom made with love from sweetie/techie.

I have only tried HardTail on both amps. Testing others tomorrow. Epi LP P90s Special and Squier Strat w/fresh setup. HardTail SHOULD be shielded, but we'll see. And pots and solder, well, maybe it was a Chinese Monday. But it's got to be the wifi. What are the odds of 2 amps in a row????? It is a very high ringing, as if your ears were ringing (which is the result), and directly proportional to master volume. No hum or anything else. Tomorrow: As the 'Verb Turns.

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

How loud is the amp?
High pitched noise....are you sure it’s not just feedback? A loud a$$ amp with an overdriven signal is going to feedback. You can’t just stop playing and expect silence. Does this high pitched noise stop when you turn the guitar volume knob down/off?

Re: Peavey vypyr VIP 1

Can you read, boy?

This is all your fault.

See below.

I love you.
:naughty:

Have you ever tried to read your own posts....yeah, I can’t decipher them either half the time. Lol

Seriously...I haven’t read through the entire thread so my bad if you already covered it. I just thought it sounded like normal feedback from what little I actually read.

Love you too...and I miss you not having been around much the last few weeks. Hope you are feeling better[emoji8]
