Original hard case
Minor pick swirling and normal wear
This was bought off a local forum bro. He told me the neck pickup was flipped around when I got it, and I haven't changed it.

Re: Peavey Wolfgang Special

I'm trying to figure out if this is a US Wolfgang Special or an MIK Wolfgang Special EXP.

Re: Peavey Wolfgang Special

By looking at the binding I'm thinking its a US model

The EXP models had faux binding, too, but it was basswood. The bridge is a tell, too, because the US models used the Gotoh style Ping bridge while the EXP models used the Schaller style with the thicker plate and the knife edge inserts.

The resolution on there pics is too low to tell.

I was trying to blow the pic up to get a close look at the tuning machines and it looks like its has the ones used on the US models

Re: Peavey Wolfgang Special

I'll try to do some more research this weekend. My camera sucks, hopefully my sister can take some better pics with her camera.

Re: Peavey Wolfgang Special

Clear close ups of the bridge, binding, back of the headstock, and transition between the back of the headstock and back of the neck will provide all the markers for model identification.

Did you buy this from Travis? If so, that's my brother and I've played this guitar. It's a US made Custom Special. Difference between the US Special and this is they put a 1/4" maple cap on these to brighten the sound, but still left it a flat top. Quality guitar.

from another website:
the serial number is the one of the easiest ways to tell...
get the number from the back of the headstock...
if it starts with 02XXXXXX then it's Korean...

if i'm not mistaken all american built wolfgangs serial #'s start with 9XXXXXXX

I talked to Travis last night and he confirmed it. He was said it was one of the nicest guitars he owned. Awesome guitar for someone at a great price.

Re: Peavey Wolfgang Special

Haven't posted on here in a LOOONNNGGG time. But this was, indeed my old guitar. I drove it down to the south counties in St Louis to hand deliver it when I lived there before moving up to Chicagoland.

It is a US Wolfgang Special. Legend has it that they painted the tops on the maple topped specials when the flame pattern had some flaws to it. The faux binding does allow you to see the figuring in the maple as well as when you hold it up to the light at the right angle, you can see some of the flame through the black finish.

Only thing I did to it was reverse the neck pickup which smoothed out the tone a little.

This is the only pic I still have with anything remotely "close up" of the bridge.

It really is a killer guitar and the only reason I got rid of it was because I prefer a FAT neck. I've been tempted to get it back more than once in the past. $500 for this guitar is a steal and anyone who has played the Wolfgangs should already knoow that.

Re: Peavey Wolfgang Special

Thanks for the update Travis, I've been on vacation. Over Xmas and I haven't been on here much,

The guitar has been SOLD.
