Peavey XXX Clip 6L6 and EL34

Re: Peavey XXX Clip 6L6 and EL34

Yeah you can get some nice slightly overdriven bluesy sounds out of it. You'd probably want to go with a little cooler tube in the front end to make that range a little wider.

Wattage-

Both sound really good, and the differences are very noticeable. Great job! Overall I liked the EL34s better...I wonder what the verdict would be if you did a clean clip with both of those tube types. In my Mark IV I like the ELs better for distorted and the 6L6 better for clean.

I truly appreciated the "I Got Mine" quote in the 6L6 clip...did you put on your Brian Robertson ballet slippers for maximum authenticity?

I sold the 6L6's so I can't record it now but the clean was far better with the EL34's using my Strat for comparison. I think a big part of the difference with the winged Svet's vs. the Sovteks near as much as the EL vs. 6L. I have to get a nice set of 6L's at some point to see but for now I am good.

I didn't try the ballet slippers but I did wear a very revealing pair of black shorts  God what was he thinking :smack: I was pandering, figured you'd catch that.

Great tone. Awesome song selection. Save the tubes, is your Triple XXX stock?

Thanks. The XXX has Celestion Century speakers in it, other than those and the tubes it is stock. I do run the stock speakers in an a 2x12 Avater cab that I use with it. It hasn't been to Voodoo or anything like that if that is what you mean. The stock speakers sounded good but the damn thing weighed like 90 lbs so I knocked off about 12 lbs with the CC's. They seem to react much better to the EL's than the 6L's.

question about eurotubes, can you call him up and tell him (bob) what you want for sound and he will give you suggestions? i have literally no idea about anything with tubes, but the stock ones in my peavey just arent cutting it now....

The EL34s really make a difference. Sounds very Marshall-ish.

I have to say that I liked the 6L6 better, maybe because I use them myself. Interesting feature this bias switch your amp has.

Thanks for posting the clips.
