Peavey XXX II

Re: Peavey XXX II

Good question. Or is it similar to the 3120 with the addition of gate and fat switches? Seems like they are covered a lot of the same ground, but I will leave that to anyone with knowledge to confirm.

Re: Peavey XXX II

looks like they have changed it up a bit, my 3120 only has one input, no noise gate, no presence or resonance, and no fat switches..interesting

Re: Peavey XXX II

Guys, you cannot be serious :laugh2:

5150 = 6505
5150II = 6505+
XXX = 3120
JSX = XXXII

Shouldn't have been too hard to figure out.

It's all just rebadged stuff because of models being discontinued but Peavey's desire to keep the amps going.
The only thing that really changed was that the 3120 comes stock with EL34 tubes instead of 6L6GC in the case of the XXX, but ultimately doesn't matter much, since being the same circuit you can switch to whatever type of power tube you want.

So yes, it will sound like a JSX, because the XXXII is exactly that with a different name and different front plate.

Well Satch did start off with the XXX but changed the voicing, changed the way the EQ worked, and added some features. I suspected that the XXX II is basically a JSX back under the Peavey badge, but I wonder if the voicing is still the same as the JSX or if they reverted to more of the original XXX voice to make it sound more thrashy.

It wouldn't have been worth Peavey's time to either drop the amps or change the circuit of anything.
They already put all that money into the amp, would have been wasteful to just drop it from the lineup.
I do think the name change is a bit odd, since it leads people to believe it's an upgraded XXX, when in reality it's just the JSX with different clothing.
I think they should have given it another name, but hey, Peavey's call.
I recall someone on a forum board a while ago that said they went to NAMM, spoke to some Peavey representatives and they said it was just a rebadged JSX.

Re: Peavey XXX II

I'm thinking of trading my 6505+ for a JSX. Need to try one again.
