Re: Pedal Reverb. Boss RV-5? Digitech RP-? Or?

...I am sold:)
Me too :naughty: Got a new one on the way, with power supply, no tax and free shipping... couldn't pass it up.
I did not know it has relay true-bypass. Must investigate :scratchch

Must erradicate der word ......trooo buuuhpass:D

Cool hope you will like it.

Re: Pedal Reverb. Boss RV-5? Digitech RP-? Or?

It is a relay bypass on the Hardwire...not some dumb switch with too many rows on it:D

Recently I've decided that a switch that uses SSR's (solid state relays) is the best all-around bypass solution. I'd actually say that it's better - especially in an effects loop situation - than a mechanical bypass switch, because the actual time that the signal is interrupted is virtually nil, therefore no pop. It's true electrical bypass, but I suppose some people might whine and complain about their precious signal flowing through a semiconductor all the time.

In the FTL Drive I use a 3PDT stomper with a 1.2M pull-down resistor to kill the pop. This is mainly because it's a lot more straightforward from a design perspective, and also because I didn't know about SSR's when I designed the pedal. The next thing I build will definitely use SSR bypass switching. I really do dislike working with the 3PDT's.

CLASSIC piece of kit, I prefer it to the aLeX, or however it's spelled!
Always loved Lexicon units....nothing but good tones for guitar.
Relays.....they have always been a fave of mine....actually had a few thing modded in the late 80s and early 90s modded with relays...no impedance screwups either.....they are great to use with this guitarstuff:)

Verbzilla or EHX hands down
The Verbzilla is a bit more versatile overall and has a great plate and vintage spring sound as well as a range of others. Darn good for the money

The Holier Grail I really dig as well. Its just a classic spring sound. Not quite as versatile but what it does it does really good. Just sounds "right"

Mills nailed it all right there. I personally dig the organic tones of the Grails (Holy Plus preferably, or Holy if you don't need to tweek). But after the Verbzilla police showed up a few times I spent some quality time with a Zilla. Awesome sounding pedal & super flexible.

My goal in life is to have one of each.

A verbzilla and a digitech chorus factory...there is all the ambience you'll ever need!

^^
;)
Bulk is the master...no two ways around it!
We use relays in our "cheap" switcher....we got it down to something worth manouvering around....and it is still ok enough to make it for us, and keep the quality...and people complain...mostly out of ignorance....well as usual really.
It is half the price of a Combinator...relays are not cheap if they are silent and consume little power....
But the benefits are good.

Re: Pedal Reverb. Boss RV-5? Digitech RP-? Or?

Well I got the Digitech-Hardwire-Lexicon RV-7 and it is a friggin great pedal. Several choices of reverb types. The reverb is very warm. The reverse effect is waycool and there is a setting that reminds me of analog delay slapback.

Heavy duty and very quiet. Bypass definitely sounds like bypass.

And, if you know me, you know I will be demo-ing this bad boy soon :D

Re: Pedal Reverb. Boss RV-5? Digitech RP-? Or?

Gee thanks .... now I have to try another pedal. I've only had the Zilla for a few months.

Re: Pedal Reverb. Boss RV-5? Digitech RP-? Or?

Is the Hardwire anything like the rackmount Lexicon reverbs?
I have only worked with expensive rack mount Lexicon products - not my own, but in recording studios. The pedal does a good job of getting the Lexicon mojo with low noise. It's probably not a studio quality unit but it is definitely suitable for a quality live sound. I can't really estimate how close this sounds to one of the less expensive rack mount units since I have not heard them.

The reverb effect is not overbearing. I like to use it where it is subtle but there. Works great in the effects loop of my 1987x.

I got the thing new with power supply for $150 US. That's a deal.

Re: Pedal Reverb. Boss RV-5? Digitech RP-? Or?

I have a Verbzilla As well as 3 amps that have real Tank Reverb (2 Vintage Fenders & a Bogner Shiva). The Verbzilla is a pretty impressive recreation/simulation of real tank Reverb, but nothing in a stomp box really compares to "real" reverb. There is something in the Decay and the length of it that these digital simulation don't seem to capture. That said I love the Verbzilla!!!
