Pedal steel players, your assistance, please

Anyone know of a place that can make custom pedal steel key heads? The (typically metal/aluminum) part where your tuning pegs mount? I was working on a project some years ago that required a custom key head but never found anything.

I do not, but you might try asking over at the steelguitarforums.com. There are a lot of super helpful pedal steel players over there.

Re: Pedal steel players, your assistance, please

I think I tried there a couple of years ago when I first started the project. Found one guy in Colorado or somesuch that makes/made custom instruments, but was unable to help.

Also thought about finding a used home-made 6-string pedal steel for cheap enough to scavenge, then sell the leftovers. There was a time when you could buy Sho-Bud and other parts, but the links I found at the time were dead.

I did get a nice template that one of the members there posted (or at another steel site). Actual size for an 8-string IIRC, I'll have to find it.

Just did a Google search and found one place that offers custom work (Williams in Wisconsin). I'll see if they can do it.

If not, I'll just do a 3D model of it and see if one of the guys at work can mill it out for me. Need to find a block of aluminum.

And heard back from Williams - who claim they can CNC hardware all by their lonesome for their guitars. 'Sorry, no."

Oh well, we got a killer machinist at work.
