Pedal switcher with amp control?

Re: Pedal switcher with amp control?

Is there a pedal switcher out there with amp control built in?

I use a Voodoo Labs GCX. If your amp uses standard TRS it'll work out of the box. If there's some fancy bull**** like mine has you may have to get a custom cable made. I did.

Thanks I'll check it out

I'm looking more for something with presets as well. Sometimes I would need to make multiple pedal changes instantly

Basically I want the functionality of something like a boss GT-8 but with individual pedals

Well yes... it's fully programmable and midi controllable. I'm the same way... my rig has to be midi controlled. If I have to hit more than one button at a time I am going to trip on something.

Ok cool I was just looking it over. Guess I should watch a video on it

Damn this **** is so expensive XD. Going to end up costing me almost 2 grand to build what I have in mind

They're not cheap but they're worth it. Aside from using it as a channel switcher and to handle the few pedals I keep in the rack, when I bring my A rig I use it to switch between the preamp in my head and a custom one in my rack.

Re: Pedal switcher with amp control?

I'm just having a hard time justifying straying from my gt-8 because it already does everything I want and the cost of building a new set up.

Maybe, but there's way better sounding stuff out there than that GT-8. Consider finding a used rackmount multi-FX for your time-based stuff... it's a lot less money and more flexible than pedals. Then in front of the amp just have your comp/boost/OD/wah/whatever which can be controlled by the GTX. It'll be a much more flexible and probably better-sounding rig.

I have a you-know-what for one of these but holy hell are they pricey:

Re: Pedal switcher with amp control?

I'm not sure what you have in mind but I'm using a TCE G system for my setup, it has 4 loops for different drive pedals, built in effects that are pretty good and has midi or trs switching for amp controls.

It's a whole lot of stuff but it does what I need and has hundreds of presets, lots of features and fully programmable. I got my still in box new for $600.

You got a link for info on that?

Some people seem to have had significant buffering issues with the G System. That was as of a few years ago so I don't know if it was ever resolved. I like the concept of the G System, and I wish there were some more options out there that offered 4 wire hookup. It's THE reason I keep having my old Lexicon MPX G2s repaired.

Re: Pedal switcher with amp control?

Most of the buffering issues were sorted in the later ib modified units starting in late 2011, if there's still issues after that then a good booster or other pedal in front can be used as a buffer.

I run wireless live so I have no issues with buffering, also I have several active guitars, but I have never had much issue with buffering.

There is a lot of setup in the G system, so unless you test everything attached as to plug it in you may see a change or loss of timbre that is attributed to the buffer.

I have the nova drive and use the nova system as well, and use midi with all of them for amp and channel changes.

It can get very complex and setting it up takes a bunch of time to get adjusted properly but it has so much control and capability, plus for a live setup its great to have everything set and ready. I really want an elektron analog drive to go with it.

They are on reverb and eBay all day, Tc electronics G system

Good that they've worked out some of the problems. Really what I want is a modern version of my MPX-G2s with analogs OD and stuff built into the front-end but it's probably not happening. I look at the way things were going as of the early 90s and then look at what we have now and I kind of wanna scream and throw things. That Pedalpro unit I linked above? That should be the rule, not the exception. We could have had it 20 years ago.

Re: Pedal switcher with amp control?

Boss ES-8 and ES-5 have control and MIDI outs that will change amp channels (and many other things) while changing pedal loops too. Same with the One Control Crocodile Tail, GigRig G2, and RJM switchers.

If you are using your GT and don't want to change, will it send MIDI messages? If so, the Voodoo Lab Control Switcher or GCX Amp Gizmo will take a MIDI message and switch channels on your amp.

EDIT - Can't your GT-8 do it with the Amp Control output?

Re: Pedal switcher with amp control?

Yeah the gt8 has a ts amp control and midi. Right now I'm using it with the 4 cable method into my h&k tm18. I don't use the pre amps on the gt8. All the effects are pretty good I just wish I could utilize the effects and combine dirt pedals. I wonder if I could hook it up through midi with a switcher and then put dirt pedals in the switcher and just leave the gt8 in a rack
