Pedalboard amps?

all guitar players I know think the are not loud enough
the bass player never starts the amp cranking war

usually its hearing loos or the eq is set for playing alone not in a mix
I know how to set my EQ. But have you tried running an EL84 poweramp next to the other guitarist's Dual Rectifier or 5150? It will inevitably sound/feel small, even if it's loud enough. I use the Dual Rec as an example because even if it's a scoopy amp, no one is saying "man, Dual Rectifiers don't sit well on a mix".

Or one of those insanely loud scoopy classic Fender amps like a Twin or whatever.

But I'm not trying to be James Hetfield in the 80's either.

:)

Actually, it is usually the drummer that sets the base volume of the stage. If a drummer is a loud one, I find it very hard to hear things clearly.
I agree.

However, gotta keep in mind it's a Punk band I'm playing with right now. And I normally play Metal. Playing drums quietly for those genres is almost like attempting to play Jazz on a raging Dual Rectifier's gain channel turned up loud, LOL. So it's a good idea to keep a controlled kinda loud, IME. And my EL84 poweramp is certainly not sounding/feeling controlled at the levels I'm at.

guitar players are frequently guilty, but there are tons of loud ass bass players too. i play in a band where the bassist is consistently the loudest instrument on stage, two guitars, two drumsets, keys, and bass. hes always too loud. also has the biggest pedalboard :D

Used to be in bands where the guitar player wanted to play the "loud war". I had PA poweramps as my rackmount bass rig at the time, no guitar players ever won :headbang:

I'm not trying to play a loud war, LOL. I'm just trying to sound good when turned up loud.

Two days ago we had band practice at a rental room, and I was using a Marshall MG's poweramp into a Carvin Legacy 4x12, and it sounded fine turned up. I think it's just my poweramp that just doesn't keep up.

I may have missed it, but what speakers are you using, what’s their power rating and how many?

On the loud war, we were rehearsing one night and the room right next to us was so loud we couldn’t hold a conversation. They sounded bad too. Couldn’t hear the vocalist and barely the drums. Our band leader went to them and nicely had a conversation with them and asked they turn down. Amazingly, they sounded 100% times better and everyone sounded like they were on the same page. We don’t rehearse very loud at all. Even at gigs we aren’t overly loud. No need to be.

I don't think there's anything cheap in a pedal format that is gig worthy/reliable. It would be easier to invest in a frfr solution for the hx stomp. Those old tech21 power engine 60 ones use a 70/80s speaker I think, so cutting through wouldn't be a problem and it's not a proper frfr unit compared to their deuce deluxe series they had out last. Used ones should not be hard to find and they are likely lighter than the amp your carrying around now as well.

Otherwise invest in the Powerstage, it's worthwhile and less likely to go into thermal shutdown mid gig. The speaker cab would still matter though for how loud it can get.
