Pedalboard Users...I've got a Q for U!

Check out my setup in the link in my signature...

Re: Pedalboard Users...I've got a Q for U!

I may have to do that midi thingy too now. You bastards got me hooked on slamming OD pedals in front of my amp and I like it now!!!! Hehe. So yeah I don't want to run 10,000 cords etc. to and from my amp to the floor, so I have to find a way to switch the little OD pedal on/off via a midi board. That way the midi board can control by Pre-amp, pedals, everything without a whole bunch of crap. Any recommendations?

You should loop some effects. Compression, filter, wah, distortion, and OD are usually best BEFORE the pre-amp, where as your EQ, Delay, Chorus, Reverb, phase, etc., should come after it, right before the power stage. General rule of thumb anyway, not everyone does it like that.

Re: Pedalboard Users...I've got a Q for U!

I use a switching system that takes care of all the mess of cables(just one running to my ground control pedal) but I have a rack that holds all my pedals , there's about 8 of them. THe rack also holds my tuner and BBE and my wireless and hush unit too, but it is very heavy and the switching system alone was 800.00

Carl Martin makes these things called The combinator. You can plug in I think 6 pedals into the unit and it switches them all in or out of the loop as you have it prgrammed. Check it out and see if that may be what you are looking for.

Whoops ! I never really answered your first question, Do you have a switchabel FX loop on your amp? If so you could just leave your Chorus pedal back by the amp and leave it on and switch it with the FX loop switch.

But if not, go to Pep Boys and buy a wire snake, they come in all these different colors and are real cheap, then you would really only have one big cord runnig to every thing.

I have yet to use a pedal thru the Rectifier effects loop that really sounds good - T.C. Electronics SCF (with the ability to set the output level on the SCF this one came the closest to sounding decent, but it was still kind of harsh), AM Clone, Boss DD-3 and DD-6; I even tried using a Boss GE-7 in there just as a boost and it added either noise or a weird distortion like you mentioned, depending on how much I turned up the levels. I have yet to try a line level output processor, but from what I have read on a Mesa forum that is what is needed to best utilize the loop.

Hmm.

I didn't have any trouble with a GE-7, but I have one that's been modded to have a better chip and along with some other parts.

My DD-20 works alright in the loop when used on the +4 setting, but it'll still occasionally distort/oscillate when the input is too high, or when the repeat level and number of repeats are turned up too high (I assume they're overloading the output somehow....).

The only pedals I've had that's worked perfectly in there is a Dunlop UniVibe (which sounded better before the loop), and a Red Witch Moon Phaser, which sounds equally as good in either location.

Re: Pedalboard Users...I've got a Q for U!

a related topic, and a gear tip for multiple pedal users:

VHT makes a device called a Valvulator... it's a tube-based signal buffer that converts your signal from high to low-Z so you can drive insanely long distances of cable with no added noise. Serves as a power source too. My teacher uses 3 line 6 pedals and about 3 different booster/drive pedals and a few added Boss pedals plus a wah and volume. I recommended one to him and he likes it a LOT for what it does for him.

Among the rack-geek circles, the Axess-Electroincs Buffer/Splitter seems to be the favorite for that purpose.

Anyone that's running more than 20-25 feet of unbuffered cable should have one.

Not baa-aad. Where can I get one? The Valvulator is like 300-400 bux.
