Doesn't anybody believe Mr. Duncan? When a guy comes in here wanting SC sized humbuckers for his strat why not just say, "The answer for you is the Everything Axe Set."

My next strat is going to get an Everything Strat Set.

I don't even get paid for this.

I think that that set is for someone who has, maybe, just one guitar, and wants to cover a lot of bases. Their goal might be different than someone who has a Strat or two, and an LP, and a Tele on the side. They'ld probably go for more of a traditional Strat setup.

I think that that set is for someone who has, maybe, just one guitar, and wants to cover a lot of bases. Their goal might be different than someone who has a Strat or two, and an LP, and a Tele on the side. They'ld probably go for more of a traditional Strat setup.

ArtiToo, you're probably right. May I ask then (hypothetically):

What are the limits placed on a Strat or Jackson or Charvel or ESP guitar outfitted with the Everything Axe Set?

Is it simply a sales pitch to call it the Everything Axe Set? I doubt that is the case. SD doesn't operate that way from all appearances.

Let me say that I've been told that my threads/posts push some guys the "wrong way". That is not my intention to be edgy or provacative. I just want for follow a line of reasoning in order to educate myself and if possible create a learning opportunity for other amatures like myself.

Okay, it's probaly nerdy to reply to your own thread. But, everyone does it right?

Well, the answer to the previous post is that a person can only respond or suggest the pickups that they have used.

It may not be appropriate to just blindly suggest the Everything Axe Set while one lacks experience with it or one of the pups in it.

Alex DeRosso of Dokken uses the JB Jr and the Lil 59.
Jennifer Batten with Jeff Beck uses all three of those pups.
Janick with Iron Maiden uses 'em
Sheryl Crowe's lead guitarist uses em.

Mike Stone / Queensryche, Roxy Lopez, Trance Sonics
Nick Lashley / Alanis Morissette, Mick Jagger
Mark McGee / Luvplanet, Gregg Allman and Friends


All lot of talented musicians are using them.

Ehm... I'd say the answer for "what can't I cover with the set" is: Very unholy sounds (Hot Rails) and the classic strat sound (Single Coils or maybe 3 Duckbuckers).... I can't mind any more right now..

Won't a couple of OD pedals get you to the down and dirty tone. The JB Jr will get very nasty from what I understand. If it's not nasty enough, add another pedal. We always want a reason to get more gear any way. This is perfect.

This is something a lot of gigging pros and sessionists would love. Most of these guys in the industry not only have to deal with guitars, but keyboards, bass, drums, vocals even. They just want one versatile strat to cover most bases. Most go with strats, for obvious reasons.

I have that set (I have a Quarter Pound instead of a Duckbucker though) and it's a good sounding set of pickups.

I have them in a Strat I built from parts a few years ago before I got my Fender Strat and my Gordon Smith and Gibson Les Pauls.

I'm thinking of changing the strat with those pups in over to a HSS config, but I'll see what happens

My biggest beef with the JBjr(which btw is completely subjective to my ears) is that doesn't quite sound like a full blown bucker. And with it unlike it's fullsize bro, it does not tap well at all to me. Super thin all the way around. It is very good for what it does and to most that is good enuff. I've personally grown away from the JBs all together, but if I were to have another, it would be a fullsize bucker.

Your threads don't push me the wrong way. I've been misunderstood once or twice here. I posted a thread about high output humbuckers that pushed some people the wrong way and it was an attempt to understand. I think maybe you worry about it too much.

That having been said, I think a Strat should sound like a Strat. There are a lot of options that can get you there but humbuckers aren't one. If you want a Strat with a humbucking sound, buy one with humbuckers. This may upset some people, but hey, its only my opinion!

Well I don't know about being for the novice! But single coil sized humbuckers don't sound like real humbuckers and humbucking single coils don't sound like real single coils. Close but no cigar! They are for those players who like the feel of their Strat or Tele but want to be able to do a lot of things that those instruments don't do.
