Perpetual Burn Question

Re: Perpetual Burn Question

I've never tried in an LP, but it sounds like a great idea.

Re: Perpetual Burn Question

I had a feeling someone would say that....LOL. I'm looking at it giving it a shot myself. Will post my opinion on it once I do. Probably ordering one tonight.

Re: Perpetual Burn Question

Have 2 one is in a Alder body Maple neck through Carvin. The other is going in a Mahogany neck and body quilt top Carvin which is a neck through also with a Sentient that arrived yesterday going in the neck. Tones are big and the pickup is quite expressive so would think it would work well in a good Les Paul.

Re: Perpetual Burn Question

And ordered. Got a zebra standard spaced coming. Two GC gift cards, another gift card from a rebate. All I had to cover was the tax. That's a deal. This will be going in a 2009 LP Traditional Pro. The neck is a '57 Classic and is staying that way. Both pickups split so it'll be nice to hear the PB split.

Please keep us posted. We never hear much about that pickup

I know. Quite surprising too. I will definitely be providing feedback on it.

For any Jason Becker fans (and music fans in general), check out his new album. This album is all about heart and soul. I can tell from listing to it that he put everything in to writing these songs. And it's pretty amazing how he did it too. If you're a lover of music, check it out. It's simply a beautiful record.

I agree on not hearing much on these pickups. Have one in my Keisel DC 135 now with a pair of the Keisel/ Carvin AP 11 singles and love it. Have another that will be going in my 2002 Carvin DC 400 with the active passive system along with a zebra Sentient neck in the next couple of days so will post on that set up when I get it in and play it out.
In the DC 135 the PB splits very very well with the AP11 in the middle and has a very nice big open tone that I think works well in that guitar. It is a little more compressed and middy than most middle output pickups but still is expressive and open enough to be quite responsive. The compression and mids at this output level make it a great pickup for clear articulate cording clean and also a great pickup at high gain for singing solos. One of the favorite more versatile bridge pickups for me in the Duncan line right now.

Re: Perpetual Burn Question

The pickup arrived yesterday. Now, to find time to install it...LOL.

Re: Perpetual Burn Question

Finally had a some free time yesterday to install it. I dig the push/pull pots that Gibson used in these Traditional Pro's. I don't know if newer models have them or not. They are lower profile with 2 lugs on the back. Perfect for wiring up to split and a lot easier to work with.

I'm still playing with the height but first impressions is this is a very sweet pickup. It's got a nice top end that doesn't get harsh, the lows and mids are definitely there, it's quite articulate and very responsive. It splits very well (becoming a 6.0-6.5k single-coil) too. I'm pretty pleased with it so far. This Les Paul is a killer guitar and this pickup has made it better. The BB3 is no slouch, I simply wanted a little more from the bridge. The output of the PB is perfect and matches up great with the '57 Classic in the neck.

The wiring is before I did anything so ignore the colors. Simply for reference. The maple cap on this thing is THICK! (see last 2 pics). It's very easy to spot the line.

Yes, the bridge ring is bowing. Will get replacements at some point. Not really concerned right now. It's technically still my friend's guitar but I am working on buying it from him. He gave me the OK to do the pickup swap.

I'll provide more feedback on the PB after a few band rehearsals with it at higher volumes and through my main rig.

I borrowed one of your pic from this thread to show another member an example of proper soldering.
I just wanted to say that this is some really great, clean work you’ve done here. Great job with this, Erik.

Thank you but it's not my soldering. That's stock wiring / soldering before I did the swap. I took those pics as a reference. My work looks similar though as I've been soldering since I was 16.

He will. We were bandmates for a long time, 10+ years. I've had it for about 4 years now...LOL. And he has 3-4 other Les Pauls.
