Personal Tele Update

Re: Personal Tele Update

IMO, Teles need contrast between guard and body to look their best. The closer in tone the guard and body are to each other, the more "meh" they are.

Are you talking about three-ply guards, though? I was talking about single-ply lacquered black.

I love a white Tele with a black or tortoise guard, but I feel like surf green needs white or parchment to look its best. Surf green and black just doesn't work.

Although in person vs. in pictures often yield different impressions, I must admit.

Personal Tele Update

USA is telling me two months. Ugh. On the flip side , I'm sending them a Celtic waterslide decal for the headstock.

Went to GC today and shot some photos on various teles.

Might need to shrink the fonts a bit.

Something like this.

Re: Personal Tele Update

I think my finish on my tele - finish beats the off-lime green finish.

I know the controls are backwards, but it is easier to play the volume swells (D. Gatton & R Buchanan stuff) using this configuration.

Weight is only 7 lbs - 8 oz.

Really thinking of using callaham's lightly aged hardware to match the pickups. It'll be up to me to play the snot out of it and age the ready of the guitar with my own sweat. I like that Bill doesn't let screws rust and such. Just a light dull to the finish. And I like they he offers it all, every screw, in a kit format.

Can't decide black or parchment pick guard. I'll let it see how it develops.

Joe Barden bridge with Glendale Twang Plus Saddle set is better than Callaham set-up, which can squealing from that thin bridge plate.

I hear ya Larry. I'm just going to give it a shot. I'll check out the Barden/Glendale combo

Re: Personal Tele Update

Yeah. Nearly 3 months in. Did ya get the body and neck?

Every Tele I've owned ended up getting sold. The best one I had was a '91 American Std. I think the only way I'll be able to keep one is to make it. I got the neck (a Strat neck though). Just need to make a body and get some hardware. One idea is an Esquire style but with a Strat hardtail and a single P-90 soapbar in the bridge position.

That's me man. Best Tele I have ever owned is my Tele from various parts; a lot from Guitar Fetish. Paulowina wood is a treasure among tone woods.

I've seen those bodies but that stuff is much too soft for my taste. I've got a couple stumps of walnut I'm going to make a couple bodies out of, one for me and one for my father-in-law. Just need to get the plans so I can trace it out and we need to get the wood cut down to planks and all that.

Re: Personal Tele Update

Yeah, the paulownia is pretty soft and super super light; almost too light. My Tele is almost neck heavy.

Re: Personal Tele Update

Funny....I am selling my CS Tele...and it is green, maple necked, made out of Alder....
It is harder to play than my acoustic......well not difficult to play, but you have to be on 29900% of the time....I am so too lazy for that....best sounding guitar I ever had.....and it is getting the kick!

Anyways how is that Dwallahamy put together plank doing???
:D
