Peters Amplification:

Re: Peters Amplification:

I like the Peters sound. He used to make custom dual channel amps where you could pick any two preamps. They all had separate EQ and master volumes. I really wanted to get one with both Polaris and Gryphon channels. I don't know if I would have ever actually ponied up for one, but now I probably never will.

Re: Peters Amplification:

Not bad, I like the Polaris and the Halo, but they probably cost an arm and a leg.

Re: Peters Amplification:

This one was mine....

If I could, I'd grab it back with no qualms....GREAT GREAT amp :bigok:

WOW....that went fast!!!

I posted a link to the For Sale ad & it's already gone :smack:

ive only played his smaller amps and i thought they were very cool but he doesnt make them anymore

Re: Peters Amplification:

That sound is based on early 70's Plexi/JMP's modded with an extra gain stage and EQ that's shifted away from treble towards thick lows and mids. JCM 800's have less growl in the mids and more sizzle, so they never truly capture that exact sound.

That was one of the sounds Reinhold Bogner was always after, which is why his amps are like old Marshall power sections with more modern and advanced pre sections. I can get that throaty growl with my Ecstasy by using either the blue or red channel in plexi mode, then heaping lots of gain on it.

Other amps like Mojave, Blockhead, Splawn, Roccaforte, and all the hotrodded clones do basically the same thing as this Peters.......although that Peters does have some nice gain and the low end is fat but fairly tight.

James is a great guy who builds a great amp (I own one of his early models). It's more my lack of amp GAS than anything else that has kept me from buying one of his newer models.

100% agree! James is definitely a great guy and makes great amps, it's becoming more and more commonplace for actual player's to design amps... definitely a good thing!

The first time I saw Peters amps were around 94, when Jimmy Page had some as his main rig on the first Page/Plant tour.
