I'm just soldering it up in the guitar, but was wondering if it was normal for the resistance to change with a magnet swap. The PG+ measured 8.2k with the A5 mag and now reads 8.5 with the A2.
JumpMarine said:Just played it a bit, while it does sound warmer than the A5, tight, focused and generally good. The eq just doesn't sound right for this guitar and it's lost some of the woodiness factor to it's tone. To my ears the hybrid 59/Custom has been the closest to what I've been looking for so far. I'd like to try a regular '59 in it now.

JumpMarine said:I just might do that if don't mind me opening up your pup.![]()
JumpMarine said:Well, I tried the a2 and I think that I prefered the little stonger a5. Go figure......The a2 sounds very nice but it's almost too scooped in the mids now. The A5 had more mids that would cut through more easily.
JumpMarine said:That's what I thought too, I'll have to give it some more play time to get the feel of it now.
Zhangliqun said:If you have both hands touching the probes while you measure the resistance of the pickup, you will get a slightly lower reading (0.2 to 0.3k lower is typical) because the current is paralleling through your body.
JumpMarine said:It was a strictly hands off reading: Alligator clip on the ground and regular probe for the hot held down on the non conducting table top.
JumpMarine said:You guys were absolutely right about the eq'ing. What I was encountering was this:
My Vox was dialed in on the mids for the Jazz neck which an a5 and scooped in the mids naturally so I compensated by upping the mids on the amp. When I first installed the A5 Hybrid I didn't have to adjust the mids and it blended perfectly. Now when I reinstalled the hybrid with the a2 the pups eq was reversed somewhat and I hadn't adjusted the mids on the amp yet making it actually sound more middy than I would like. When I dialed down the mids it really opened it up and sounded nice. But the dilema now is that in order to blend the best to my ears, I need to have both the bridge and the neck to have a2 or a5 mags in them. Just for convenience sake. This would be so I could switch back and forth on my 3way switch without having to change the eq on the amp. Does this make any sense at all. I'm reading it back and it kind of sounds as if I'm hearing things wierd.

Once you try an Alnico Custom/59 Hybrid, nothing else quite compares!
John... after you get a Hybrid back in your axe where it belongs, you have to try the Jazz/59 Neck Hybrid... it's pure tone heaven...:beerchug:
