PG neck / Custom bridge question

If I put this set up in my LP Classic will the neck have more lows then the bridge? This is with the tone maxed out on the guitar for both pickups and the same settings on the amp. I was under the impression that the neck should have more treble then the bridge!! If anyone can tell me what this set up would sound like with just the neck and just the bridge and then both together.:dunno:

Re: PG neck / Custom bridge question

It will balance nicely. I have this same set in my LP right now and it sounds great for pretty much anything.

The PGn and Custom is my current favorite humbucking pickup combo.

The alnico 2 PGn will have a little less bass than an alnico 5 neck humbucker and that helps give it clarity and mud free performance for chords and rythym...as well as for soloing.

The Duncan Custom is ceramic and has plenty of bass and mids where you need them: in the bridge position which can use bass and mids because the strings sounds very bright, thin and twangy at that location near the bridge.

That set also splits into single coils beautifully.

Highly recommended.

Re: PG neck / Custom bridge question

Thanks for the info Lew and Bengy,

I just thought that the bridge pu was supposed to have more of a bass sound than the neck pu. With this combination, the PG seems to have a little more bass then the custom. I'm using the stock pots which I'm sure are both 300K. It may be that I'm so use to the SH2 Jazz n that I"m just thrown off by the deeper sounding PGn. I've always been under the impression that the neck pu should have more treble than the bridge pu. Don't get me wrong I like the PG, and my LP sounds great with the selector switch in the middle position--any position!!! Lew, could you tell me what your pickups sound like in each position, in your LP of course.

Thanks

I've had that combo in my 'ol Epi LP for a long time now, and love it. The PG in the neck gives me just enough high's for clearness with good bass tone, and the Custom in the bridge is great for lead-work and power-chording. They really do compliment each other when blended, clean or dirty.

I'm going to try a Custom bridge/Alnico 2 Pro neck combo today -- just need to install them.

I have used the Custom/PG setup in an Explorer and they go together like peas and carrots!

So far the guitar sounds great -- the Alnico 2 and the Custom go really well together. The Custom is nice in the bridge -- all sorts of tones from it.

No -- by virtue of it's position much closer to the middle of the string lengthwise, the neck pu will always tend to have more bass response, which is why bridge pickups tend to be wound hotter -- to compensate for that.
