Phat Cat neck for shredding?

I have never played a P90 equipped guitar before and am curious as to how they sound. I have a PAF Pro in now and love it but am considering trying a Phat Cat. I have learned from this forum that a P90 is somewhere between a Hum and single....what do you think of it's soloing qualities? Do it's cleans sound nice? Any info would help.

It's would be going into a superstrat type...bolt on maple / rosewood neck, mohagany w/ maple cap...hardtail.

Also what bridge hum would it match well with? Something with medium output I would guess?

Well, you can shred with any pickup as long as your picking hand is good. People have been using single coils to shred for a while. Some guys even prefer them because they send a cleaner signal to the amp. I could never deal with the noise, though. The cleans from a P90 would be quite good, very clear. I guess the only way you'll know for sure is to try them out. If you don't want to buy the pickup just to try it out, see if you can find a P90 equipped guitar in a store and try some shredding on it. That would give you a better idea.

Matt Bellamy in Muse has guitars equpiied with high-output p90s at the neck; not exactly a shredder, but a riffer with a lot of flair anyway. Tom Morello always used a neck single coil too. Matt also uses high-output bridge humbuckers with his high-output neck p90, so that probably works too.

Hey Travis, thanks for the reply...

Yea, I figured note articulation may be better than a standard hum. Would anyone comment on the overall sound of the Phat Cat in the neck positions? What charactoristics does it share with hums and singles? Is it kind of the best of both worlds or not?

I guess it would be in between a single and humbucker sound because it's supposed to be a p90 in humbucker form. When I tried a epi p90 les paul at GC, I thought the tone from the neck sounded a bit like a neck single coil, but it has a thicker and more powerful tone. It wasn't thin at all and I guess it was about the output of a humbucker.
